The 47th edition of the Copa América will conclude on Sunday with the highly anticipated final between the hosts Brazil and Argentina. Both teams will compete for glory and to lift the trophy but they will also receive an important amount of money if they emerge victorious.

The total tournament prize money announced is $19.5 million, which will be distributed among the teams that make it to the knockout stages.

Brazil or Argentina will win $6.5 million

La Canarinha, the reigning champions, took home $6.5 million last year, the same amount that the champions will take home this campaign, plus cash rewards from sponsors. The second-best team of the tournament will get $3.5 million, together with cash prizes from sponsors and their respective federation.

The third-best team will get $3 million, while the fourth-ranked will receive $2.5 million. Those teams that make it to the quarter-finals will get $1.5 million each, whereas the national squads that are eliminated at the group stage won’t take any prize money home.

Argentina will try to win their 15th Copa América title, which would see the South American squad tie with Uruguay with the most trophies. Moreover, it would be a special triumph, as superstar Lionel Messi would win the title for the first time with La Albiceleste. Meanwhile, Brazil, led by Neymar Jr., will seek their 10th title.
