Conor McGregor breaks ankle in second straight loss to Dustin Poirier
UFC 264: The Trilogy - as it happened
Conor McGregor loses to Dustin Poirier via doctor stoppage. The Notorious broke his ankle and couldn't continue the fight. This is not the ending that The Trilogy deserved but is one that is as crazy as this feud between these two guys.
One thing is for sure, they don't like each other at all. For the sport this is good. There is no way that this story is over. Conor McGregor was obviously disappointed, and it seems crazy to think that he will accept this as a loss. The Irishman has already said that he only accepts knockouts, so it is only normal to think that this is a lost that he won't accept either
For Dustin, he was winning this bout before Conor broke his ankle. He is the number one ranking UFC fighter, and it is a shame that he couldn't continue to fight in order to settle the question of who is better. Convincing him of a fourth fight presents itself a challenge that Dana White will have to handle with care.
Both fighters are 32 years old, but tonight one fighter looked like he was ready, fresh, and at a great moment in his life, while the other appeared to be tired, lost, and unable to find his rhythm. The truth is that since McGregor took that fight against Mayweather, he hasn't been able to get back to his level. The Notorious has only won one out of his last three fights, with today's fight, that extends to one in four.
This is not over, and we can only hope to see a deserved resolution to this feud, to this battle, between two guys who don't like each other and that are different as one can be
