Real Madrid defender Varane's Man United switch draws closer
With Varane having already agreed personal terms with United, the player's representatives have given the club the green light to start negotiations with Real Madrid.
The departure of Raphaël Varane from Real Madrid appears to be drawing closer. The French international, who is currently enjoying vacation after France’s Euro 2020 campaign, could be Manchester United-bound in the coming days should negotiations between the two clubs accelerate as expected.
A key moment will come in the next few days as United prepare to present their first official written offer, as reported by French media outlet RMC. There have already been contacts between clubs, but only in the form of calls and messages to find out the respective positions and no formal offer has been made from Old Trafford as of yet.
With the presentation of a formal offer, United will be one step closer to securing the services of the French central defender, who has expressed his desire for a new challenge away from the Bernabéu, while the Red Devils seek a world-class defensive partner for Harry Maguire.
Varane and Man United agree terms
Madrid had set a target of securing €70 million for Varane’s transfer before the opening of this summer’s market, although United are understood to be willing to pay €55 million.
With Varane having already agreed personal terms with United, the player's representatives have given the Premier League club permission to start negotiations with Madrid.
After Varane turned down a renewal offer, Madrid have agreed to negotiate taking into account that the Frenchman’s contract ends in 2022 and if they do not sell him this summer, the club risk losing him on a free next summer.
