Which New York City public pools are open for summer 2021?
The city's municipal swimming pools are open again for summer with great facilities in each of the five boroughs so you can cool off in the heat.
Summer is finally here and New Yorkers will be able to enjoy the warm weather this year a bit more than they did in 2020 as many of the city’s various municipal pools are reopening.
From Saturday 26 June, 49 public pools will be open again to help you cool down in the sweltering summer heat. Most pools will be open from 11am to 7pm, with a short break 3-4pm for cleaning, and offer free entry.

Where are the best public swimming pool in NYC?
Every day throughout the summer thousands of New Yorkers will head down to one of the many municipal pools to cool off in the heat. This year things will be slightly different with all visitors required to wear a face mask while entering the facility, in locker rooms, bathrooms and on the pool deck.
Here’s a look at some of the best public pools in New York City …
Astoria Pool, Queens
One of the most popular pools in the city with views of Triborough, the Robert F. Kennery Bridge and Hell Gate Bridge surrounding the facility’s impressive decorative glass block and Art Deco design. The large pool area has plenty of room for swimming and a 32-foot diving board for the dare devils.
The pool was first opened in the summer of 1936 to boost community recreation during the Great Depression and hosted the Team USA Olympic Swim and Diving Team trial in 1936 and 1964.
The Floating Pool, The Bronx
For a unique experience The Floating Pool lets you swim ‘on’ the East River, within the safety of a seven-lane half Olympic-size 25-meter pool. The only floating pool currently in operation in the United States is located on a barge in The Bronx’s Barretto Point Park and also boasts a 40,000-square-foot manmade beach.
Jackie Robinson Pool, Manhattan
Formerly known as the Colonial Park Pool, in 1978 the public pool with a 4,000-person capacity was renamed after baseball legend Jackie Robinson. The facility is tucked away amongst trees in the Manhattan neighbourhood of Harlem and also features a small water park for children.
Tottenville Pool, Staten Island
A 2019 renovation has overhauled the Staten Island public pool with lounge chairs, colourful murals and luscious new planting to give it a summery new look. The park on Joline Avenue now boast a 60x75 foot main pool with two smaller ones, one of which is for children.
