In preparing for an event such as the Olympics, many wondering about the training and diet athletes undertake took to keep in shape. Simone Biles, 24, opened up about her diet and exercise routine last fall as she prepared for the games in Tokyo.

In an interview with Women’s Health, Biles said that she does not focus on counting calories or seriously monitoring what she eats. Rather, the World Champion gymnast will “eat what I feel good with and try not to overeat or stuff myself because I'm always at the gym.”

Eating disorders can be a common occurrence for some athletes. Biles spoke to how they can impact those in her sport and how tracking food “can lead to health problems and eating issues, so I just eat what I know I can and should."

More on Simone Biles

Breakfast

For Biles, breakfast is an “if you have time,” sort of thing. When she does take time to eat in the morning, she typically starts her day with fruit or oatmeal.

Unlike many of those reading, she is not a caffeine drinker and has said she is naturally a morning person, from which she derives much energy.

While you may not find her with a cup of joe, the Olympian is a big fan of Core Power Protein Shakes; vanilla is one of her favorite flavors, but she has said it is always changing.

Lunch and Dinner

The two later meals of the day are where Biles really digs in.

A true foodie, the 24-year-old has a weakness for delivery apps that can bring her favorite dishes right to her doorstep.

She told Women’s Health that “I feel like it's more manageable because I can get home, shower, and go on the app to order whatever I want with the click of a button," she says.

Like any true public figure, she is a proud supporter of veggies; broccoli corn, green beans, potatoes, and carrots are some of her favorites.

Biles is an intuitive eater and by the time she makes it to dinner, she checks in with her body to see what she wants to eat. After hours at the gym, one of her main go-to’s is pizza and pasta.

Drinks, Snacks, and Desserts

Everybody needs a little treat every once in a while, and Olympians are no exception.

When Biles does have a drink, she often ops for a margarita but with her strict training schedule, nights for her usually end by 10:30.

The gymnast says she has “to be in a dessert mood and that usually happens more often when I'm out of town.” When cravings strike, she tends to gravitate towards s’mores, cookies, and other treats she can bake herself.
