What a year it has been for Italy!

Eurovision winners, Euro 2020 winners, High jump winners and the 100m men's gold medal.

Tamberi and Barshim share high jump gold

Italy's Gianmarco Tamberi and Qatar's Mutaz Essa Barshim shared the gold medal in the men's high jump event. Both jumped 2.37m without misses and agreed to share top spot on the podium instead of a jump-off. It was an emotionally-charged moment for Tamberi who broke down and was seen writhing around on the track in disbelief, moments later Marcell Jacobs took another gold for Italy.

In third place, Belarus' Maksim Nedasekau claimed the bronze.

Jacobs wins Men's 100m

Italy's Marcell Jacobs sprinted to gold in the Men's 100m, crossing the finishing line on 9:80 seconds. Fred Kerley bagged the silver for Team USA and just a whisker behind him was Andre de Grasse, who took bronze.

Yulimar Rojas sets new world triple jump record

Venezuela's Yulimar Rojas won the gold medal and set a new world record in the women's triple jump with her final jump, marked at 15.67m - beating the previous best set by Ukraine's Inessa Kravets, set almost exactly 26 years ago in Gothenburg.

Men's 400m Hurdles: Benjamin qualifies

Team USA's Rai Benjamin finished second in the men's 400m hurdles semi-finals to qualify behind world record holder Karsten Warholm of Norway.

Team USA take fencing bronze

The USA men's foil team have taken the bronze medal after beating Japan 45-31. France go on to take the gold after a comfortable win against silver-medalists ROC in the final.

Mens 800m semi-final 2: Team USA's Murphy qualifies in second

Clayton Murphy finishes strong, who came from back the field to finish second behind Peter Bol of Australia. Those two go through to the final.

New OR in women's triple jump

Venezuela's Yulimar Rojas has broken the triple jump Olympic record on her first jump, with a length of 15.41.Incredible stuff!

Gymnastics: Suni Lee wins bronze for Team USA

The women's uneven bars event has just finished, where Team USA's Suni Lee takes bronze. She has finished behind Belgium's Nina Derwael, who is also World Champion, and ROC's Anastasiia Iliankova.

Camacho-Quinn sets new OR

Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Pueto Rico sets a new Olympic Record in the women's 100m hurdles semi-final 3 with a time of 12.26. She's miles ahead of the pack, with Jamaica's Megan Tapper taking second with a time of 12.62.

Team USA's Gabrielle Cunningham finishes fourth at 12.67, and she goes through to the final alongside team mate Kendra Harrison.

Women's 100m hurdles semi-final 2: Anderson wins; Harrison second

A huge gap between the leading pair and the rest. Britany Anderson (JAM) wins with a PB of 12.40. WR holder, Kendra Harrison of Team USA comes second with a tome of 12.51. Those two go through to the final.

Women's 100m hurdles semi-final 2: Three false starts

There has been a third false start and it's a yellow card for Porter of Great Britain.

Men's 100m semi-final 3: China's Su Bingtan sets PB

A superb race from China's Su Bingtan who takes first place with PB time of 9.81. Team USA's Ronne Baker takes second with a PB of 9.81, which is also a new Asian record. Italy's Lamont Marcell Jacobs also qualifies with time of 9.84.

So that's two USA sprinters in the final, Ronnie Baker and Fred Kerley.

Men's 100m semi-final 2: Hughes wins for GB

Zharnel Hughes wins the race with a time of 9.98. He qualifies alongside Enoch Adegoke, who finishes second on 10.00.

Disappointment for Team USA as Trayvon Brommel finishes third, also finishing with 10.00 but with a slightly slower rection time than Adegoke.

Men's 100m semi-final 1: Kerley (US) wins race

Fred Kerley takes the win in a tight semi-final 1 with a time of 9.96. Canada's Andre De Grasse second with 9.98 and also automatically qualifies for the final.

Men's 100m semi-final 1: Prescod disqualified

Reece Prescod (GB) with the false start and he's disqualified.

Gymnastics: Alex Yoder scores 14.566

Men's pommel horse: Alex Yoder was second up and scores 14.566, significantly behind Team GB's Max Whitlock, who scored 15.583. He eventually finished sixth overall as Whitlock claims gold.

Gymnastics: Men's pommel horse gets underway

Team USA's Alec Yoder competes in this event and will hope to secure the United States' second gymnastics medal of the day after Mykala Skinner won silver a little while ago in the women's vault.

Tennis: Gold for Germany as Zverev claims victory

Alex Zverev has defeated ROC's Karen Khachanov 6-3, 6-1 in the men's singles final to take gold. The world No. 5 becomes Germany's first-ever men's singles gold medalist.

Gymnastics Rebeca Andrade wins gold; Skinner takes silver

Women's vault: Mykala Skinner takes silver for the United States. She finishes behind Brazil's Rebeca Andrade. YEO Seojeong of Korea secures bronze and she is in tears.

Gymnastics: Shallon Olsen (CAN); Angelina Melinikova (ROC) next up

Women's vault: Canada's Shallon Olsen scores 14.550 to put her in fifth place. But then Melinikova surpasses her with a 14.683 score. Mykala Skinner stays in second with just one more athlete to go.

Gymnastics: disappointment for Jade Carey (US)

Women's vault: Jade Carey is fourth up. She has a very poor first attempt and the second isn't much better. She's devastated. She scores 12.416.

Up after Carey is Korea's Yeo Seojeong, who scores 14.733 to put her in third. Mykala Skinner remains in the silver-medal position for the US.

Gymanstics: Mexico's Moreno goes second; Brazil's Andrade third

Women's vault: Alex Moreno scores 14.716, before Rebecca Andrade secures a 15.083, which puts her ahead of Mykala Skinner.

Gymnastics: Skinner starts for US

Mykala Skinner is first up with a clean vault routine. She scores a 14.916 after vault 1 and 2.

Gymnastics: Women's vault about to get underway

Two Team USA representatives are in this women's vault final: Jade Carey and Mykala Skinner. The competitors are currently being presented ahead of competition. Simone Biles will not compete today after dropping out of the floor event.

If knitting was an Olympic sport, Team GB diver Tom Daley would probably win gold in that too....

Gymnastics: Artem Dolgopyat wins floor gold on tiebreaker

Isreal's Artem Dolgopyat wins the tiebreaker against Rayderley Zapata (Spain) to take the gold. Zapeta secures the silver while favorite, with China's Xiao Ruoteng finished third.

Dissapointment for the US as Yol Maldauer finishes sixth, while favourite Nikita Nagornny (ROC) ends in seventh.

Gymnastics: Moldauer knocked off third

Moldauer (US) has been knocked off third place by Korea's Ryu Sunghyun.

As things stand in the floor event, Yul Moldauer is in third with a score of 13.533.

Artistic finals underway in Tokyo

Plenty of medals up for grabs for the US in the artistis finals: Yil Moldauer is on the floor; Mykala Skinner on vault; Jade Carey on vault; Alex Yoder on pommel horse; and Suni Lee on uneven bars.

Tennis: Gold for Czech pair

Katerina Siniakova and Barbora Krejcikova have defeated Switzerland's Belinda Bencic and Viktorija Golubic 7-5, 6-1 to secure gold in the women's doubles.

Sailing: Rindom wins gold for Denmark

An exciting medal race in the women's Laser Radial as Anne-Marie Rindom (DEN) takes gold. She finished seventh place in the final race, behind Marit Bouwmeester (NED) in sixth, who takes bronze. Race winner Josefin Olsson (SWE) moved up into silver-medal position overall.

Diving: China 1-2 as US wins bronze

Another 1-2 for China in diving as Shi Tingmao and Wang Han top the leader board in the women's 3m springboard. US athlete Krysta Palmer takes the bronze medal

Golf: Xander takes gold for the United States

Xander sinks the short putt to win gold for the US! He made it very hard for himself towards the end but he recovered and finished with a -18. It will be the first gold in golf for the US since Charles Sands in 1900.

Golf: Xander with a phenomenal third shot on 18th

Xander has left himself with a short putt for his fourth shot, he's done brilliantly after that awful tee-off. If he putts it, he's guaranteed the gold for the US.

Baseball: Israel knock out Mexico

Monumental victory for Israel over Mexico in Baseball! The Israelis stay alive in the bracket after a 12–5 win...

Golf: Xander messes up tee shot on 18th

Xander with another poor tee shot and he has not made life easy for himself on this last hole. He plays a sensible short second shot onto the fairway instead of going long, knowing a par should be enough to secure the gold.

Golf: Xander regains the lead for the US

The US golfer scores a birdie on 17th to move to -18! He's one ahead of clubhouse leader Sabbatini with one hole to play.

Golf: Another par for Xander on the 16th

US's Xander remains on -17 with two holes to play. A birdie and par in these final two hole will likely see him clinch the gold, but he has not hit a birdie in a while.

Golf: Xander scores a par on the 15th hole and remains level with clubhouse leader Sabbatini on -17.

Golf: Xander (US) with the bogey on the 14th, dropping back to -17 and now he's level with clubhouse leader Sabbatini (Slovakia).

Golf: Xander (US) is back on the fairway and about 20 yards from the green on the 14th but it's taken him four shots to get there.

Golf: After his blunder off the tee, Xander has had to take his ball out of a thick bush for the drop. Getting plenty of advice from his caddy before lining up his shot on the 14th. But he's completely messed it up. "Ridiculous," says the commentator. His club makes connection with a few branches as he swung to hit the ball.

Golf: Massive mistake from Xander (US) off the tee on the 14th as the ball ends deep in the rough and among the trees!

Golf: It's another par for US golfer Xander on the 13th, he still leads at -18.

Golf: Moriwaka hits par on 17 to stay at -14, and that means his hopes of a bronze for the US are virtually over.

`Sabbatini with a late charge

Rory Sabbatini (SLO) finshes his round birdie-birdie to shoot 61 and is the leader in the clubhouse at -17. Xander Schauffele leads the tournament six holes to play, but just by a stroke after Sabbatini's excellent finish. Matsuyama (JPN) is at -16 through 12 holes.

Golf: Slovakia's Rory Sabbatini finishes with 61, ending his day at -17, one behind Xander at -18, who has six holes to finish.

Golf: The US are on for two medals in the golf, with Xander leading and Moriwaka putting himself in contention for a bronze.

Men's volleyball marathon

Brazil and France have just finished an epic match, with the Brazilians outlasting the French in a contest that went for over two hours and thirty minutes. The french won the second set 39-37, but Brazil battled back in the preliminary round to take the victory.

Golf: Leader Xander takes par on the 12th hole to stay at -18. Sabbatini and Matsuyama both two behind on -16.

California Cool: Jason Sobel would like to see a Schauffele and Moriwaka team up at the Ryder Cup.

Volleybal: Brazil take victory over France by 3 sets to two.

Half of the hockey semi's set

Germany and Australia are on to the semi finals in Men's hockey. The Germans beat Argentina 3-1, while Australia went to penalty strokes. They now await the winners of Belgium vs. Spain and India vs Great Britain.

Coast is clear for Xander

Schauffele's closest rival, Rory Sabbatini just had a bogey on 15 to give the American a 3 shot lead. Schauffele is on the eleventh.

Busy day in the boxing ring

Ben Whitaker (GB) is on to the gold medal boxing match in the men's light heavyweight category after takeing a split decision over Imam Khataev (ROC).

Ghana will earn their first Olympic medal since the early 90's with Samuel Takyi's quarterfinal win in the featherweight division.

China's Gong Lijiao takes home the gold in the women's shot put final, with a distance of 20.58. USA's Raven Saunders finishes with silver with a throw of 19.79 and Valarie Adams gets bronze with 19.62 meters.

Aussie Logan Martin finished off a spectacular opening run posting a 93.3, and winning the gold medal. Daniel Dehrs (VEN) and Declan Brooks (GB) finshed second and third

Biles out on floor event

Simone Biles has officially withdrawn from the floor event final. Biles continutes to struggle with mental health issues, and will wait to decide if she will compete in the beam event in the coming days.

Fantastic Four

It was a photo finish in the men's 4x100 medley. The US team set the world record, but Great Britain were less than 0.9 seconds away from gold. They settle for silver and Italy finishes with bronze.

Caeleb Dressel is a perfect four of four in his Olympic campaign after winning gold in the 50m free finals. He had already won two other individual golds in the 100m butterfly and the 100m free, and he got the gold in the 4x100 freestyle relay. He's got a chance to make it 5 of 5 in the 4x100 medley. Walsh drops out of welterweight semis

Heartbreaking stuff for Irishman Aidan Walsh, who had to withdraw in the welterweight semifinals in Men's Boxing. An ankle injury forced Walsh into the decision, which puts Pat McCormack in the final on Tuesday.

Here’s a look at all of today’s events with medal events labeled by the icon to the event. Medals will be handed out in artistic gymnastics, athletics, badminton, BMX freestyle, diving, fencing, golf, swimming, tennis and weightlifting.

What awaits us to start off this Saturday from Tokyo

Day 9 will kick off with early action from Kasumigaseki Country Club, as we enter the final round of the four day tournament is Men’s golf. Women’s beach volleyball will be one of the next events to kick off this morning in Tokyo as the North American derby will get us underway when Canada face the U.S. to begin today’s Round of 16 action at 9 am in Tokyo, 8 pm ET.

The preliminary round of men’s handball will also continue around the same time as beach volleyball starts. Briefly after that we will have you covered with everything happening from the pool as medal day in the Men’s and Women’s 4x100m medley relay and 50m freestyle get underway at 8:30 pm ET.

Men’s field hockey will start simultaneously with Germany and Argentina kicking off the quarterfinal day. That will carry us into the late morning and early afternoon events on a very busy day that will feature one of the main evens, the Men's 100m medal round from Tokyo.

The Women's 100m was, for many, the highlight of Day 8, where we saw Elaine Thomson-Hera set a new Olympic record of 10.61 seconds, in what was a Jamaican one-two-three.

It was, of course, another very busy day in Japan and here's how we took you through it.

Tokyo Olympics Day 9 live updates: welcome
