Tokyo Olympics 2021 track, field & road athletics schedule: dates, times, events, competitions
ANTONIN THUILLIERAFP

The action at the Tokyo Olympic Games has already captured the imagination and the good news is that there is still so much to go. From the unspeakable joy of surprise medal-winning performances, to the interest generated by new sports like surfing and and skateboarding, to the emotion and inspiration shown by Simone Biles as she put her mental health first, the opening week in Japan has had the world's attention focused on it.

But now the track and field athletes join the party - albeit one with virtually no spectators - and the excitement grows to new heights. Whether you marvel in the stamina needed for long and middle distance running, the strength or agility for the throws and jumps, or simply the explosive speed of the fastest men and women on the planet, we're here to guide you when you'll want to turn on.

More than 11,000 athletes from 206 nations arrived to compete in this summer's Games, and week 2 will see some of the biggest names take centre stage.
