After Messi, "PSG only have two ways to comply with Fair Play"

The football lawyer Toni Roca has warned of the only avenues he believes are now available to Paris Saint-Germain given they now have Messi, Neymar and Mbappé.

Toni Roca, director of the Sports Law Institute, has warned that Paris Saint-Germain now only have two ways to sustain their star-studded project led by Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappé, so that they do not breach the Financial Fair Play regulations imposed on clubs by UEFA. This regulation effectively states that no team can spend more than it earns.

Messi, Neymar, Mbappé: how to balance the books

"PSG must seize the two approaches in order to comply with Fair Play and make their project viable this season,” Roca stated on Tuesday.

Latest Messi news:

“The first is the management of their sponsorships, bringing in new contracts that will allow Paris Saint-Germain to exceed its expenditure and thus be within the margins of the FFP rules.

“On the other hand, the departure of players from the squad before the close of the transfer market should be encouraged in order to balance the books and avoid any potential sanction.” This is certainly an aspect that several clubs looking for a new addition will be keeping an eye on.

Until 2011, clubs had total freedom to do their business and make transfers, but from that date UEFA, under its former president, Michel Platini, decided to put a stop to that and began to control the spiralling costs of the clubs more. Some may argue that the regulations haven’t worked quite as well as they had hoped.
