Tonga coach Kefu "safe" after surgery following armed robbery attack

Toutai Kefu is on the mend and hopes his wife will be out of hospital on Thursday after they were attacked in their own home on Monday.

Tonga head coach Toutai Kefu has revealed he is recovering well after suffering serious injuries during an armed burglary at his home.

The former Australia international was rushed to hospital along with his wife, Rachel, and two children following the incident in the Coorparoo area of Brisbane in the early hours of Monday morning.

Kefu required surgery after suffering stab wounds to his abdomen and his wife has also reportedly undergone an operation, having sustained significant lacerations to her arms.

The Kefus grateful for support

The 47-year-old, capped 60 times by the Wallabies, offered a positive update on Wednesday and expressed his gratitude for the support his family have received.

"Wow. Humbling to see the outpouring of love and well wishes from family, friends, community members and the general public," he posted on Facebook.

"We just want to say thank you for everyone's support we feel very lucky and grateful."

Teen charged with attempted murder

Police charged a 15-year-old boy with four counts of attempted murder, three counts of assault causing grievous bodily harm and one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, break and enter, burglary and deprivation of liberty over the incident.

A second 15-year-old boy was taken into custody after presenting injured at a South Brisbane hospital, but has not been charged.

As investigations continued, a 13-year-old boy was on Tuesday charged with burglary.
