Barcelona vs Getafe summary: score, goals, highlights, LaLiga 2021/22

Barcelona go joint-top with the win, which was deserved but Ronald Koeman will be looking for much more as his side continue to adapt to life without Leo Messi.

As for Getafe, they remain on zero points after three games played.

The second half has been very poor. All three goals came in the first 45' and since then we have seen little football, but Barcelona won't care if they can hold on here. 

The fourth official puts up his board and there will be five minutes added on.

The Getafe midfielder strikes from the edge of the box but it's an easy stop for Ter Stegen. 

Carles Alená has a wonderful chance to score against his former side! Emerson steals the ball from the midfielder just as he's about to go round the defender and shoot from close range. 2-1

Frenkie de Jong combines nicely with Emerson down the right wing. Getafe stand strong and the ball is recycled back.

Jankto smacks a left-footed drive to Stegen's right-hand post and the big German gets down to knock it out for a corner. Mitrovic heads the resulting corner wide of Stegen's left-hand post. 

Barcelona are knocking it about nicely in the opening stages of the second half. Koeman will have told them to get an early third goal at the break.

Barcelona deserve the half-time lead but Getafe are far from dead and buried here. Barca's first half goals coming from Sergi Roberto and Memphis either side of a Sandro strike.

Ter Stegen is back on his feet. Arambarri shoots from outside the box, Enes Unal flies in to get on the rebound and catches the keeper but thankfully he is now fine.

Ter Stegen is down on the ground. The Barcelona medical team are out on the pitch. We hope he's ok.

The side from the south of Madrid have never beaten the Catalan giants at Camp Nou with Barça winning 22 of the 32 official meetings between both sides.

25% of the Camp Nou pitch is in the sunshine, the rest is in the shade but most of the play is happening on the sun-kissed patch of the pitch, where Jordi Alba is having a good battle with Iglesias and Alena.

Barcelona once again attack down the left wing. Jordi Alba makes a run, De Jong picks him out but it's Djené clearing the danger for Getafe.

What a finish by Memphis! He turns Getafe inside out before firing into the near post to give Barca the lead again. De Jong with the assist.

Getafe will be happy with the opening half an hour. They are still adjusting to the new reality with a new manager in Michel in the dug-out following Jose Bordalas' move to take over as Valencia boss. 

It's been a disappointing start for the returning Míchel as two back-to-back 1-0 defeats see the 'Azulones' nestling at the wrong end of the table.

It's a super goal from the away side. Sandro plays a one-two with Alena before unleashing a 18-yard strike beyond Ter Stegen. 

Getafe captain Djene goes down after a challenge from Braithwaite. It looked unintentional - the Dane was protecting the ball with his back to the defender.   

Former Barca player Carles Aleñá is playing right wing for Getafe this afternoon. He recently joined the Madrid-based side from the Catalan club. 

Even more important news for Barcelona fans is the return of first choice goalkeeper Ter Stegen after several weeks out due to undergoing surgery on his knee.

Koeman has named the same three strikers for the third game on the bounce. Griezmann and Braithwaite are playing alongside Memphis.

Barca play a long ball over the Getafe defence but Braithwaite is flagged for offside. It has been a very positive start for the home side.

Getafe have set up in a classic 4-4-2, but head coach Míchel will be frustrated with the early goal conceded. They have it all to do now.

Barcelona can't compete with Man City, Man Utd or PSG in transfer market – Koeman

Barcelona have to be "realistic" in the transfer market and cannot hope to match the financial power of Paris Saint-Germain or the two Manchester clubs, according to Ronald Koeman.

Hit hard by previous mismanagement and the impact of the covid-19 pandemic, Barça are in financial turmoil with debts reaching €1.4billion earlier this month.

It resulted in the loss of talisman Lionel Messi, whose 21-year association with the Blaugrana ended in early August when Barça confirmed LaLiga restrictions meant re-signing him was an impossibility following the expiration of his contract in June. He subsequently joined PSG on a free transfer.

With rivals Real Madrid bidding for PSG star Kylian Mbappé, Koeman is still reportedly wanting to add to his squad before Tuesday's deadline, though he accepts Barca have to know their limits.

"Every person who wants the best for this club is frustrated but you also have to be realistic, and economically the club cannot compete with other teams like PSG, City, or United," Koeman told a news conference ahead of Sunday's clash with Getafe.

Tests conducted on Gerard Piqué revealed damage to the player's left calf - the diagnosis was a small elongation of the muscle, which will keep him sidelined for the next two weeks.
