Cam Newton cut from the New England Patriots: where will he land in the NFL?

Newton, who started for the Patriots throughout the 2020 NFL season has been cut by the Patriots. Rookie Mac Jones will be the starter for the team.

The New England Patriots shocked the NFL world today by cutting veteran and once league MVP Cam Newton. This means that the Patriots are betting strongly on rookie Mac Jones to be the starting QB for the team.

Coach Bill Belichick is set to pick Jones for the start of the season when the team faces the Miami Dolphins on week 1 of the competition. The rookie had a great preseason game against the New York Giants, running the team's traditional empty formations, setting the offensive line protection at the line of scrimmage, and calling plays when the game needed it.

Newton started 15 games for New England last season. It was the Patriots' first with a losing record since 2000. The now ex-QB for the Patriots completed 8 touchdowns with 10 interceptions, 65.8% of his passes for 2,657 yards. Newton rushed for 592 yards and 12 touchdowns. Proving his legs can add depth to the team if needed.

Where is Cam Newton going?

The Dallas Cowboys are the front runners to sign the 32-year-old. First-string QB Dak Prescott has yet to feature for the team this preseason due to a shoulder injury suffered during training camp. The QB had missed the last 11 games of last season after suffering a horrific ankle injury.

The Dallas team has cut quarterbacks Ben DiNucci and Garret Gilbert on Tuesday, which means the team only has Cooper Rush as Prescott's backup. So it would make sense to go for Newton, an already proven QB who is looking to revive his career.

Jerry Jones is known for making big moves, and this is definitely one of them.
