The 2021 Major League Soccer Cup playoffs are right around the corner and many teams are fighting to seal their spot for the first round. The Los Angeles Galaxy has struggled all season in the Western Conference, but they have managed to stay in the playoff picture.

Playoffs are right around the corner

On Sunday the team from Los Angeles went on the road to face Austin and lost 2-0 to extend their winless streak to seven games. Moussa Kalilou Djitté (54th minute) and Orrin McKinze (79th minute) scored in the second half for Austin to seal the victory and the three points.

“We know that every game is like a final and we have to win these kinds of games. The team is there, but the small details can change the match. We couldn’t score the chances we got and they [Austin] had three opportunities and scored twice. So we have to change that mentality and pay more attention to details. I am worried because we have a few games left, but we know all the teams are close to us,” said Jonathan dos Santos on Sunday night.

We are working hard and we don’t like to be in this situation. Hopefully we can get out of this losing streak on Wednesday, because one win will change everything,” he added.

The last time they won was against Minnesota United with Kevin Cabral scoring the only goal of the match after 90 minutes. Now the Los Angeles Galaxy will have to turn the page quickly because they have another road game on Wednesday night when they face Real Salt Lake at the Rio Tinto Stadium.

Playoff picture for the LA Galaxy

Currently the team managed by Greg Vanney is in fifth place with 38 points in the Western Conference. If the season ended today, they would secure a playoff spot, but there are eight games left in the regular campaign. The Galaxy needs to win on Wednesday, because RSL is only two points behind them, so another defeat would take them out of the playoff picture.
