Raiders 14-28 Chargers summary: score, stats, highlights | NFL Week 4
The Los Angeles Chargers handed the Las Vegas Raiders their first loss of the season, after a fantastic start to a game that was delayed more than a half hour due to weather conditions in Tinsel Town. Justin Herbert had three touchdown passes as the Chargers were able to hold off a second half surge from Derek Carr and the Raiders.
Weather delay in the roofed SoFi Stadium
The game got off to a strange start after storm cell passed over Inglewood, California causing a delay to the game that was being played under the roof at SoFi Stadium. The postponed kick off might have affected the Raiders, but the Chargers didn’t miss a beat, coming out on the opening drive of the game with a touchdown after 12 plays and 75 yards. Herbert connected with Donald Parham on the four yard touchdown pass for the first score of the night.
Three 3-and-outs to start game for LV
The Raiders struggled mightily on the offensive end in the first half, going three-and-out on their first three series, and on their fourth possession turned it over on downs after just four plays. With no first downs in their first four drives the defense started to wear out late in the first quarter.
Herbert led two more touchdown drives before the end of the half, including a six-play 80 yard drive and a nine-play 69 yard drive that ended with a 14 yard pass to Austin Ekeler with just 29 second to go in the half.
Chargers up 21-0 at half
The Raiders came out looking like a different team after most likely getting an ear full from head coach John Gruden in the locker room. Carr led Vegas on an opening drive touchdown to start the third quarter and the Raiders faithful, of which there were many in LA, started to come to life. A quick stop on the defensive end jolted Las Vegas to life, and a rapid fire touchdown drive that included a 41 yard defensive pass interference call had Gruden’s guys within a score after Carr hit Waller in the end zone on a three yard TD pass.
Ekeler ices game with 4th quarter TD
That would be the end of the scoring for the Raiders, as the Chargers locked down on the defensive end. Las Vegas kicker Daniel Carlson missed a 52 yard field goal early in the fourth quarter, and the Chargers put the game out of reach on the very next drive when Ekeler ran in an 11 yard touchdown to put the game on ice with 5:20 to go in the fourth quarter.
