Buffalo Bills 38 vs 20 Kansas City Chiefs summary: score, stats, highlights | NFL Week 5
The Buffalo Bills stormed into the house of the two time defending AFC Champions and made a big statement against the Kansas City Chiefs in Arrowhead Sunday night. Josh Allen had an explosive first half, setting the tone for the Bills 38-20 win over the the Chiefs.
Bills avenge last years AFC Championship loss
Sunday’s prime time matchup was a rematch last year’s AFC Championship. It was Kansas City who walked off the field victorious in January, but the two teams have been on very different trajecotries since then. The Chiefs have lost four of their last six since their win over the Bills ten months ago. The Bills on the other hand are looking like a team on the rise.
There was talk coming into the week of a changing of the guard in the AFC, and Sunday’s game will only add fuel to that fire. The Chiefs looked outmatched from the start, as Buffalo connected on big play after big play in the first half.
Bad weather didn't bother Bills
Before the halftime break that ended up taking an hour and fifteen minutes due to inclement weather Bills quarterback had 219 yards on seven completions. The Chiefs Achilles heel was their defense and their secondary was exposed by Allen Sunday night.
The Chiefs offense did not look like the same Chiefs offense that came Into Week 5 at tied for second most point per game. The Bills had Patrick Mahomes number for most of the night, and a Micah Hyde pick six midway through the third quarter put the game out of reach for the home team.
Bills turned Chiefs over four times
The pick six was one of four turnovers the Chiefs commited on a soggy night in Kansas City. Mahomes was responsible for three of those, throwing two picks and fumble a snap late in the game.
Meanwhile Allen lit the Kansas City secondary up, tossing three touchdowns and running for another one. The fourth year quarterback there for 315 yards and ran for another 59 yards as commentators Al Michales and Chris Collinsworth started to make a case as the early season MVP.
Bills share best record in the AFC
There will be plenty of questions surrounding the Chiefs as their defensive struggles continue. But the Bills made a convincing argument that they could very well be a contender come playoff time. Buffalo joins the Los Angeles Chargers as the only teams in the AFC with a record of 4-1. Baltimore will have a chance to join them at 4-1 tomorrow night if they can beat the Colts. Meanwhile the Chiefs are below .500 for the first time since before the Kansas City reign started in the AFC three years ago.
The defense contained one of the top quarterbacks in the the league. Mahomes threw two picks and fumbled once.

Prediction: 35-28
The Chiefs have been locked in tight games all year long. I think another barn burner awaits against a great Bills team, but I don't think they lose a second home game in a row.
The early games have come to a finish and what a day it was. Hopefully tonight's game will be packed with plenty of drama to end this Sunday on Week 5.
Squid Game cleats? Now I've seen it all.
(I think that Squid Game, I've never seen it, but thanks to social media I feel like I have)
The fans are getting ready for tonight's primetime game out in the pakring lot. Is there a better stadium to tailgate outside of then Arrowhead Stadium?
Patrick Mahomes passed for 325 yards and three touchdowns against the Bills last year to take the Chiefs to their second straight Super Bowl.
Expect plenty of points in tonight's rematch of last year's AFC Championship. Both teams come into tonight averaging 33.5 ponts a game.
Hello everyone and welcome to Arrowhead Stadium for tonight's primetime game between the Chiefs and the Bills.
One of Week 5’s feature matchups in the NFL is a rematch of last years AFC Championship. The Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs will be meet on Sunday afternoon and AS English will be keeping you up to date with live scores, stats, and highlights form tonight’s game from Arrowhead.
The Bills have more than bounced back from an opening week home loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Since then, not only are they undefeated, but they have pitched two shutouts against the Dolphins and the Texans respectively.
While the defense is getting plenty of notoriety, Josh Allen and the rest of Buffalo’s offense has been sensational since the Pittsburgh game. They posted 35 points against the Dolphins, 43 against Washington and 40 points against the Texas last week.
Allen is having yet another fantastic season after taking the Bills to the AFC Championship game last year. He has thrown for nine touchdowns and just two interceptions and passing for over 260 yards a game.
Chiefs reign on the AFC coming to an end?
The Chiefs have had one of the most disappointing starts to the season, especially when you consider they have been to the last two Super Bowls and haven’t tweaked the roster too much.
They got back to their winning ways last week with a 42-30 win over the Philadelphia Eagles, but lost their previous two before that. A one point loss to the Ravens, and a narrow home loss to the Chargers in Week 3 has the Chiefs at 2-2 on the year.
Three of Kansas City’s four games have been decided by six points or less, but last years contest between the Chiefs and the Bills was a comfortable 14 point win for Andy Reid’s guys.
It’s no surprise that Patrick Mahomes has been incredible over the course of the first four games of the season. He’s averaging over 300 yards a game with 14 touchdowns and just four interceptions. The Chiefs are, and have been one of the top offensive teams in the league for the last few years, but the defense has been letting them down of late.
In four games, the Chiefs defense is giving up an average of 31 points a game. Josh Allen has had just one big game for Buffalo, that came against the Washington Football Team, but he might have a chance to post another big statical night tonight against a struggling secondary.
Both teams come into Sunday night’s game as two of the top three scoring teams in the league. Buffalo and Kansas City are both averaging 33.5 points a game. The Arizona Cardinals are the only team that are outscoring the Chiefs and the Bills at 35 points a game.
Buffalo will face their biggest test of the year on the defensive end, while Kansas City’s defense will have to tighten up if they want to keep from going under .500 for the first time in a years.
