Landon Donovan rejects the Real Salt Lake managerial job
The six-time MLS Cup winner took his name off the least for the vacant job because according to sources, RSL is not the right fit for him.
Landon Donovan was one of the top candidates to take over the managerial job at Real Salt Lake since the position has been vacant since August. But the LA Galaxy legend decided to withdraw himself from that list because according to sources, RSL is not the right fit for him at the moment.
Other options for Salt Lake
The general manager of the team, Elliot Fall, has other names on the list to take over the vacant job. Names like Dominic Kinnear, Pat Noonan, who is the assistant coach at Philadelphia, and former FC Dallas manager Luchi González could take over RSL for the 2022 MLS campaign.
"It’s been a really exhaustive process. We’ve tried to be really diligent about being deliberate. Going through, asking the right questions, getting the right people, having conversations with all the right people,” Fall told ESPN last month.
Donovan is focused on the USL
The six-time MLS Cup winner is in his second campaign managing San Diego Loyal in the United Soccer League. Currently he has led the team to second place in the eight-team Pacific Division of the Western Conference and he is also the co-owner and executive VP of soccer operations.
Even though he is pretty busy in San Diego, Donovan doesn’t want to stay in the USL for long. His intention is to manage a team in Major League Soccer and teams that might be interested in his services and need a coach are Chicago Fire, FC Cincinnati, FC Dallas, Toronto FC and Vancouver Whitecaps.
