Ansu Fati: the youngest goal scorer in El Clásico vs Real Madrid
Aged 17 years and 359 days, Ansu Fati became the youngest player to score in a Clásico in October 2020 although some have disputed the claim.
Ansu Fati entered the history books when Barcelona played host to Real Madrid in the 245th installment of El Clásico on 24 October 2020. Unfortunately, Barca fans were unable to witness the teenage forward’s achievement as the game was played behind closed doors at Camp Nou. Fede Valverde had put the visitors ahead on five minutes but just three minutes later, Messi released Jordi Alba down the left with a lofted ball over the top; the full-back squared to Ansu who slotted past Courtois with a first-time finish to level it up.
Ansu overtakes Raúl
Real Madrid went on to win the game 1-3 but it was an historic moment for the young Barcelona player, who at 17 years and 359 days, became the youngest player to score in a Clásico, snatching a record which had been held by Real Madrid legend Raúl, who was just a tender 18 years and 95 days old when he opened the scoring at the Bernabéu in the 1-1 draw with Barcelona in September 1995.
Other youthful Clásico goal scorers include Vinicius Jr. (19 years and 233 days), Leo Messi (19 years 259 days), Roger García (18 years 289), Francisco Calvet (19 years 20 days) and Gonzalo Higuaín (20 years and 149 days).
However, there has been some debate as to whether Ansu Fati is in fact the youngest player to find the net in a Clasico. According to AS’ very own imitable Mister Chip, it could be Alfonso Navarro, who cancelled out José Bravo’s opener in El Clásico at Les Corts on 30 March 1947. It was his fourth goal of the season and he was, according to some reports, aged 17 years and 356 days although no one has been able to verify if his date of birth, which sources claim to be 8 April 1929 is accurate.
