A terrifying event took place in Tokyo, Japan on Halloween night, October 31. On a train, several people were headed to Halloween parties when a man in a Joker costume stabbed and injured as many as 17 people before spraying a clear liquid on the train car and setting it on fire.

According to the Associated Press, three of the injured people had serious wounds and one man was completely unconscious. Video of the incident shows train passengers with horrified looks on their faces, running through the connecting doors of the train, some covered in blood and screaming, and photos show them climbing through windows when the train finally made an emergency stop.

The Joker's influence on the incident

One witness spoke to the Yomiuri newspaper, saying that they thought it was a stunt for Halloween. “Then I saw a man walking this way, slowly waving a long knife.”

The police arrested the man on the spot. He told them that he admired the Joker’s character in the comics. The irony is not lost. The character of the Joker is isolated, misunderstood, and angry. In the 2019 film “Joker”, there is a scene in which he attacks several people on a train after being harassed. According to the NHK news agency, police said he told them that he had been wanting to kill someone “since June” after losing friends and quitting his job. The Joker for him was a hero.
