Weston McKennie could join Tottenham in the winter transfer window
Newly-appointed manager Antonio Conte is keen on signing the USMNT star who fell out of favour with Juventus after breaking Covid-19 protocols.
Last week, Tottenham Hotspur appointed Antonio Conte as the new manager. The Italian is already thinking about adding players with the winter transfer window right around the corner. Conte is aware that Juventus are not quite happy with Weston McKennie for breaking covid-19 protocols and the USMNT, so they are willing to part ways with him after a year and a half.
Conte thinks McKennie is the next Arturo Vidal
According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, the Italian manager wants to sign the United States international in January. Conte sees a lot of similarities between McKennie and Arturo Vidal and he thinks he could bring that physicality to Tottenham’s midfield in the Premier League.
Conte has always been a ‘fan’ of Weston McKennie and he is eager to add him during the upcoming transfer window. The report claims that Spurs are preparing a £17 million offer for McKennie in January so that he can start working under Conte as soon as possible.
The only setback is that Massimiliano Allegri has given the United States international a more important role with Juventus and this could prevent him from wanting to let go of him. The 23-year-old has played in 13 games across all competitions this campaign and has scored two goals. Juventus paid roughly 20.5 million euros to Schalke 04 to sign McKennie permanently last season and he is under contract until 2025.
