We've been giving you live text coverage of a FIFA World Cup 2022 Qatar qualifier between Brazil and Colombia. It was Brazil who came out on top 1-0 courtesy of a Lucas Paqueta goal in the 72nd minute of play. With that Brazil can pack their bags for the big event next summer in the Middle East while Colombia will need to sweat a bit more as they now hang in the balance.
A game of few chances
In what was a very physical match, the two South American giants of football went head to head in the FIFA World Cup 2022 Qatar qualifier. There were few chances to speak of but in the end it was Brazil - playing at home - who came out on top. The Selecao were a different team once Anthony and Vinicius Jr. were introduced late in the second half.
They began to find more space on the wings and indeed it was off of Anthony's run that the ball found it's way to Paqueta who in turn obliged with a first time shot to the far post.
With that, Brazil have all but assured their passage to the World Cup next summer in Qatar, yet they will want to review this match as it is clear they are still struggling with their transition from the defense into the midfield. They were sluggish at times when it came to distribution of the ball in the final third.
Colombia on the other hand now find themselves in a very vulnerable position. They will need a positive result in their next game if they are to grab a play off spot for next year's big event.
And it's all over. The referee has blown the final whistle in what has been a rather tense affair between two very competitive teams. Colombia will leave frustrated but it must be said they did little in the way of chance creation.
It has been a very disciplined performance by Brazil tonight. While they have not shown the technical brilliance that they are known for, it is not because they haven't tried. Credit must be given to Colombia, however, the Brazilians have displayed other strengths tonight which in turn has kept the Colombians at bay.
Alisson calmly collects the resulting Colombia free kick, the keeper has has not been troubled often tonight.

Anthony has a shot from close range but Ospina just manages to parry it away for a corner.
Ospina to restart as we close in on 90 minutes. With this victory Brazil will essentially qualify themselves for next year's main event in Qatar!
A great run from Vinicius who plays to Neymar, who in turn plays the ball back into his path but in the end the Madrid winger is unable to keep his footing as he stumbles into the area and the ball goes out of play.
Colombia seem to be losing their fire at this point as Brazil have now switched to possession mode. The score still stands at 1-0 in favor of Brazil.

Almost out of nothing. What appeared to be a rather casual build up turned into an exhibition in Neymar's precision as he guides a one touch pass into the path of Paqueta who was entering the area and took the shot on the first touch. The effort beat Ospina to the far post bottom left corner!
Neymar is cutting a frustrated figure as he is yet again robbed of the ball with no whistle following. The PSG forward is being jeered by his own fans.
The substitutes combine as Anthony shows his technique with a classy dribble on the right side followed with a lovely cross, but Cunha heads just over the bar. A decent effort!

Brazil now try the left side with Vinicius. The Madrid winger has been a problem for Colombia since his introduction but he is forced into a back pass after running out of real estate on the left side.
Brazil now in possession, try to play through Neymar, but their talisman is dispossessed once again in front the area. They try again from the right side.
Gabriel Jesus finds himself unexpectedly in space and has a go at goal but is unable to generate any force on the shot as it trickles into Ospina's hands. Colombia restart.
Vinicius shows his quality with a deft move on the left side. He plays to Neymar, but the #10 is immediately crowded out and dispossessed. Colombia bring the ball out.
Brazil regain possession and Gabriel Jesus attempts to move along the right side, but is fouled by Cuadrado.
Brazil seem more settled as they play around the Colombian area but are finally dispossessed and Colombia break. Luis Diaz is halted finally and Colombia have a throw.

Neymar shows his trickery but the ball is cleared for a corner. He takes the resulting corner and Marquinos sees his glancing header go just wide. Colombia breathe a sigh of relief.

A fantastic effort from Luis Diaz after a slick move by Colombia. The forward had a decent look at goal, shooting across his body but his shot goes just wide to the relief of the Brazilians.
A heavy foul on Alex Sandro on the left side. The resulting freekick, however, is too deep and only finds the hands of Ospina.

The corner is taken quickly and Cuadrado controls but is dispossessed immediately and Brazil begin again.
Neymar is on the ball for the freekick and takes it but the wall does its job and the ball goes out for a corner.
Neymar takes possession and goes on a solo run. The Colombians can't cope and are forced into a heavy foul on the PSG star just infront of the area. Barrios is booked for his troubles.
A foul in midfield by Fred once again. Colombia take the free kick quickly and are off and running but give up possession.

A crafty corner from the Colombians as Cuadrado plays the ball along the ground to the top of the bounce where a dinked pass is played to the back post. In the end the Brazilians are just able to clear.
Colombia break but a cross from the right side is blocked. A corner to take with Cuadrado on the ball.
The corner is deep and is eventually cleared but it seems Casemiro has taken a hit to the face. There is no foul or VAR called on the play.
Brazil are beginning to find their feet as they win a corner from the left side. Neymar to take.
Mojica receives the first card of the game as he commits a cynical foul on Pacqueta.
Lovely combination play by Brazil. A lobbed pass into the area by Fred but Paqueta is unable to finish as he scuffs his volley.
Brazil are dominating possession by a wide margin but are finding no joy thus far.
A heavy foul in midfield by Moreno on Casemiro
A foul by Casemiro in midfield. The freekick is taken quickly and Zapata is played into the area. The Atalanta foward unleashes a fierce drive but it is too high!
Brazil are trying their best to impose themselves on the game but so far Colombia has proven very difficult to break down. In fact, it's Colombia who is managing to play between the lines.
Gabriel Jesus is unable to get onto the end of a deep pass from Neymar into the area. The idea was correct but not the execution.
Brazil get underway again playing around their defense for the moment.
A free kick from Cuadrado. The Juventus winger delivers a beauty which is just punched out by Alisson.
Neymar is on the receiving end of a heavy foul. Brazil build again from the right side but immediately switch to the right. A deep cross then finds the hands of David Ospina in the Colombian goal.
Colombia for the moment are dominating Brazil as they move the ball around the park from the left side to the right. but they gave up possession and Brazil begin again.

Brazil are forced to clear under pressure and Colombia regain possession and begin to build from the back.
Colombia appear to have settled a little more than Brazil as they are beginning to string passes together.

Neymar recovers and plays home to the defense. Brazil restart and try to build from the right. Danilo takes a shot from the right corner of the box but it is well over the goal. Colombia with the goal kick.
The game remains a tussle between the two South American heavyweights. Colombia with a throw in.
Colombia play down the left side. There is a deep cross to Cuadrado who plays to the top of the box to Barrios who then has a decent shot, but it goes just over the goal.
There is an intensity to the match but so far neither team has built a constructive attack.
The opening exchanges are scrappy but Colombia manage to maintain composure.
Brazil break from the back and play to Neymar who crosses the midfield to the sound of cheers. Brazil then settle in the defense and play to Rapinha who is fouled.
There is a moderate crowd but there are making themselves heard. Brazil in their traditional yellow and blue and Colombia with their blue jerseys.

Colombia find themselves in a vulnerable position but have no reason to doubt themselves having clinched positive results against Brazil in their last 4 meetings.

The PSG forward comes into Thursday's game having scored seven goals and registering seven assists in nine FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
Colombia has no reason to fear
Colombia enters Thursday's clash having recorded a clean sheet in each of their last three games,including a 0-0 draw against Brazil. Interestingly Colombia out shot Brazil in that Oct. 10 match up, 12-4, even though Brazil dominated possession. What's more is that Colombia is unbeaten since suffering a shootout loss to Argentina in the Copa America semifinals on July 6. Expect them to have a go at Brazil

The referee will be getting things off and running at 7:30 p.m. ET or for those here in Europe at 01:30 a.m. CET. The match will be taking place at the Corinthians Arena in Brazil with as full a house as can be expected!
