Lionel Scaloni’s men sit second in South America’s qualifying group, six points behind Brazil, who confirmed their World Cup spot with a 1-0 win over Colombia last week.

Argentina have a 12-point lead over Colombia in fifth, and will be guaranteed to finish in one of the four automatic qualification places if they beat Brazil and any two of Los Cafeteros, Chile and Uruguay fail to win on Tuesday. The two-time world champions will also qualify if they draw with Brazil and two of Colombia, Chile and Uruguay fail to win.

Argentina team news

Argentina head coach Scaloni says Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi will be in the hosts' line-up at the Estadio San Juan del Bicentenario, after the 34-year-old featured for the final quarter of an hour of Friday’s 1-0 qualifying victory over Uruguay.

Messi has missed PSG’s last two games through injury, but on Monday Scaloni told reporters he's fit to start against Brazil: "Against Uruguay, we decided that Messi would play a few minutes to see how he was and he will play tomorrow. We hope he feels good."

Meanwhile, PSG midfielder Leandro Paredes has recovered from a muscle strain suffered against Peru in October, but his involvement against Brazil remains up in the air. Paulo Dybala is also a selection doubt after the Juventus forward was taken off at half time of the Uruguay win with a calf issue.

Possible Argentina line-up against Brazil:

Emiliano Martínez, Gonzalo Montiel, Cristian Romero, Nicolás Otamendi, Marcos Acuña, Guido Rodríguez, Rodrigo de Paul, Giovanni Lo Celso, Lionel Messi, Ángel Di María, Lautaro Martínez.

Brazil team news

For Brazil, the main team news is that Neymar won’t be a part of Tite’s side in San Juan, after the PSG forward picked up a thigh problem in training on Monday.

Brazil will also be without Casemiro, who serves a one-match ban for accumulated yellow cards after being booked in the win over Colombia. Liverpool’s Fabinho is expected to replace the Real Madrid man at the base of the Seleção’s midfield.

Possible Brazil line-up:

Alisson, Danilo, Éder Militão, Marquinhos, Alex Sandro, Fred, Fabinho, Lucas Paquetá, Raphinha, Matheus Cunha, Vinícius Júnior
