Cristiano Ronaldo may be the most famous name in global football, arguably in sport as a whole, and that fame carries with it a lifestyle that many would envy and the riches to match. But how much is the man of the CR7 brand really worth?

Ronaldo: his net worth

From Sporting Club in Portugal to Manchester United to Real Madrid, Juventus and back to the Premier League giants, Ronaldo his been involved in some headline-grabbing transfers. The fact that there is unlikely to be any club in the world who wouldn’t have wanted his services during his pomp - scraping together the cash and prestige somewhat of a stumbling block to most - sponsors have also clambered to get his signature and have thrown sufficient rewards in his direction. Then there are his own ventures that have brought in considerable attention and fortunes. His current net worth is estimated to be in the region of $500 million.

Back in 2017, at a point close to his peak with Real Madrid, Forbes announced in their list of 100 highest paid sports stars that the famous number seven was at position number one. Then, with an annual income of $88 million - salary plus endorsements - he came in above playing rival Lionel Messi and the likes of NBA’s LeBron James and Kevin Durant, as well as tennis legend, Roger Federer.

WIth a weekly salary at Old Trafford of around $650,000 he is collecting more than $33 million annually just in wages. This comes on the back of his pay packet at in Serie A which averaged out at $64 million per year over his three seasons there, almost double that of his United contract. There is little surprise, therefore, that Cristiano was the first active team-sport star to breach the $1 billion mark of career earnings. He passed this golden milestone, according to Forbes, during the pandemic of 2020, and hasn’t exactly stopped reaping the rewards of his hard work. That said, he's still not in the billionaire's club.

Cristiano: more than a footballer

From his rise in Portugal and into the first team with Alex Ferguson in England, Cristiano broke records galore on the field of play and also built up a huge following, something that these days can be measured. Earlier this year he became the first person, not just sports person, to reach 500 million followers across Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Ronaldo struck up a lucrative lifetime deal with sports manufacturer Nike, which has seen him involved in numerous campaigns, while his CR7-brand that encompasses a clothing range, luxury hotels and a popular gym chain, among other things, have all kept the money flowing.
