Al Hilal vs Pohang: how and where to watch the AFC Champions League final - times, TV, online

This year's AFC Champions League finalists boast proud records in the competition. Al Hilal won it in 1991, 1999-2000 and 2019 while Pohang Steelers lifted the trophy in 1996, 1996-97 and 2009, meaning Tuesday's winner will become the single most successful club in AFC Champions League history.

What the coaches have said

Pohang Steelers coach Kim Gi-dong admits it will be a special occasion when his side takes on Al Hilal in the 2021 final at the King Fahd International Stadium.

"It took us a long time to be standing here in the final," said Kim.

"As a player I had the experience of becoming a champion long time ago, but as a coach it feels special to be here in the final. There have been a lot of challenges and difficulty along the road but here we are here. I want to play a good game, to show a good performance to our supporters."

Since Pohang Steelers’ last appearance in the AFC Champions League final, Al Hilal have been in three finals, losing in 2014 and 2017 before finally equaling the Korean side’s record in 2019. Kim admitted before the clash that he is not concerned over his opponents’ record.

"I don’t actually worry about history. They have a lot of experience in this final, but this year we have a lot of experienced players and throughout the season the team became solid and we showed some great performances. I trust my players and they trust each other, so I’m not worried on that front. It’s a fact that they are playing at home and in front of their own fans, which means they will have an advantage."

Jardim not underestimating Pohang

Al Hilal manager Leonardo Jardim is hoping to become the first Portuguese boss to win the AFC Champions League, but he acknowledged the size of the task facing his side.

"Whoever thinks a Champions League final isn’t balanced, doesn’t really understand football," said Jardim.

"In games like this you have to be fully focused and no team has a significant advantage against the other. In recent years, Al Hilal lost finals in this competition against teams that were not really better than us. We have to respect our opponents and give our all in the game. I’m sure they would have watched 4-5 games for us and know how we play," he added.

Al Hilal favourites to win tournament

Al Hilal go into Tuesday's final as favourites. Their 2019 AFC Final success saw them avenge a loss in the 2017 final at the hands of Japanese outfit Urawa Red Diamonds. Al Hilal players continue to make their presence known with the national team and in ex-France international striker, Bafetimbi Gomis, they have a player who has an impressive record in the Asian Champions League.

The last time Pohang won the competition was back in 2009 when they defeated another Saudi Arabian side, Al Ittihad, in the final.
