Barcelona are keeping a close watch on the market concerning players who are coming to end of their contracts - they are hoping to reinforce their squad but the club economic situation limits who they can bring in. So players who will be free agents in the summer are especially of interest, including a player they have admired for a while, who has also attracted interest from some of the top clubs in Europe. Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria will be able to start negotiating with other clubs from January.

The Swiss player is a first choice for coach Adi Hütter - having contributed two goals and 11 assists in the 11 games which the team has played this season. But his contractual situation has prompted the club's Director of Sport Max Eberl to announce that they may let the 25-year-old leave. Eberl told Sport Bild, "If he, or any other player, tell us that they want to leave then we will sort it out. It would be crazy to fight someone if they want to go".

Arsenal reported to be interested in Zakaria

If they decide to sell now, the German club could cash in on a player who is highly in demand. They would however, find themselves without a key squad member - one who is difficult to replace. "We would need to evaluate whether we would be better or worse during the second half of the season without that," Eberl added. Zakaria will be out of contract in June 2022 and can start talking to other clubs from 1 January. He he doesn't renew, the winter transfer window will be the club´s last chance to sell the player - who is valued at 27 million euros. Otherwise, Zakaria can leave on a free in the summer to the club of his choice.
