Bruce Arena is MLS coach for the 2021 season

Bruce Arena keeps making history as a manager and on Monday he was voted the Sigi Schmid Coach of the Year for the fourth time in his career. The veteran manager led the New England Revolution to a record 73 points during the 2021 regular season to win the Supporters’ Shield for the first time in clubs history.

Previous awards

The 70-year-old manager is already a member of the US National Soccer Hall of Fame and previously he won the award with DC United (1997) and the Los Angeles Galaxy on two occasions (2009 and 2011). This year he tied Sigi Schmid with 240 regular season wins throughout his career and they are tied in first place.

Arena will most likely break that record next season when he returns to coach the Revolution for the 2022 MLS campaign. Currently he is preparing the New England-based side to play against the New York City FC on Tuesday in the Eastern Conference semi-final.

The winner of that game will advance to the conference final to face Philadelphia Union on 5 December. If the team, managed by Bruce Arena wins, they will have home field advantage against the Union and make a push to win their first MLS Cup in franchise history.
