Liverpool sign Claudio Taffarel
A World Cup winner with Brazil, Taffarel will combine his work as goalkeeping coach for the national team. Alisson was key to his arrival at Anfield.
Liverpool have brought Claudio Taffarel on board goalkeeping coach for the first team. The news came as a great surprise in England. The former keeper, a World Cup winner with Brazil, will combine his duties with the national team and his new job at Anfield. He will be working closely with Alisson, who recently signed a six-year contract extension with the Reds - one of the reasons behind Taffarel's arrival. He will work hand-in-hand with Liverpool's current coaching staff.
Alisson, according to reports in the UK, recommended hiring his compatriot, who he already works with the Brazil national team. At present, Liverpool have two goalkeeping coaches - John Achterberg and Jack Robinson, who will work alongside Taffarel. The ex-Brazil international has been working with the Brazilian Football Federation since 2014 and, according to Goal, has established a long-standing work relationship with Alisson.
John Achterberg has been the senior goalkeeping coach at Liverpool for over a decade. He joined the club from Tranmere Rovers in 2009 and started working with the first team in 2011. He has enjoyed a close working relationship with Jürgen Klopp. The Dutchman was one Klopp's right-hand men at the club, but that could change now. In England the appointment is being viewed as a sign of how much sway Alisson holds at the club.
