2021/2022 Champions League Round of 16: all qualified teams
Villarreal won their postponed game against Atalanta, sealing a place in the Champions League last 16 and finalizing the line-up for the draw next Monday.
The Champions League group reaches its climax this week, with the final round of games to decide who wins a spot in the Round of 16.
The first and second placed teams in each of the eight groups (A-H) will take their places in the first knockout stage, which will be played in 2022, with the first legs scheduled for 15/16/22/23 February, and the second legs being played on 8/9/15/16 March.
The draw for the next round takes place on December 13.
Villarreal win postponed Atalanta game
The LaLiga side completed the pots for the last 16 draw on Thursday with a 3-2 victory over Atalanta in Bergamo in a game carried over from Wednesday due to snow. Arnaut Danjuma and Étienne Capoue gave the visitors a 3-0 lead going into the break but Ruslan Malinovskyi and Duván Zapata provided the hosts with late hope in a game they needed to win to progress with goals in the 71st and 80th minutes. Villarreal though held on to take second place in Group G behind Manchester United.
Champions League: Wednesday's results
Juventus pipped Chelsea to top spot in Group H with a 1-0 home win over Malmö, while Thomas Tuchel's side were held to a 3-3 draw away at Zenit, placing the reigning European champions among the second seeds for next Monday's draw. Elsewhere, the game between Atalanta and Villarreal was postponed due to snow so the outcome of Group F will be decided on Thursday, with the rescheduled match due to take place at the Gewiss Stadium at 16:30 CET.
Barcelona's hopes of beating Bayern Munich to advance to the last 16 were dashed in Munich as Bayern heaped more misery on Xavi's side following the 3-0 victory in Camp Nou earlier in the season (with Ronald Koeman in the dugout) and the infamous 8-2 drubbing meted out to Quique Setién's side in the 2019-20 semi-finals. Thomas Müller, Leroy Sané and Jamal Musiala provided the goals to send Barcelona out at the group stage for the first time since 200-01.
In Group G, where any of the four teams could have gone through on the night, Lille and Salzburg both won to secure their places in the last 16 at the expense of Wolfsburg and Sevilla respectively.
Other results on Wednesday:
Group E
Benfica 2-0 Dynamo Kyiv
