The United States Military Academy is out to continue its good recent run against the United States Naval Academy when the two meet in the 122nd edition of the Army-Navy football game on Saturday.

Army seeking fifth victory in six years

Having lost 14 in a row between 2002 and 2015, the Army Black Knights have now won four of the last five against the Navy Midshipmen. Twelve months ago, the Army secured the Secretary's Trophy with a 15-0 scoreline that represented the team's first shutout victory in the game since 1969.

The Navy currently has a 61-53-7 overall lead in the fixture, which was first held in November 1890.

Army will retain Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy even with loss

Whatever happens in New Jersey, the Black Knights will keep hold of the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy, given to the winner of the annual triangular series played by the Army, the Navy and the United States Air Force Academy.

After defeating the Navy in September, the Air Force was beaten by the Army last month, so a win for the Navy Midshipmen on Saturday would bring about a three-way tie. If that happens, the Black Knights would retain possession of the trophy they won in 2020.

Army-Navy game: what time does it start?

The 2021 Army-Navy game will be played at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on Saturday 11 December 2021 at 3pm ET/12 noon PT.
