The USMNT could book World Cup place this month

The United States men’s national team have put the successful year they enjoyed in 2021 behind them and are now focused on obtaining their ticket to the 2022 World Cup as soon as possible. The CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers will resume in late-January with home games against El Salvador and Honduras. After that, they will go on the road to play against Canada.

Crunch time for the USMNT

"I know if we continue with this points per game, we'll qualify for the World Cup," USMNT coach Gregg Berhalter told reporters Monday. "We know that. So for us, it's about closing this out. We don't want to get ahead of ourselves."

Berhlater is holding camp with 19 domestic players in Phoenix, Arizona and they will spend the next two weeks competing for a spot in the World Cup qualifying camp later this month. Berhalter also said that the future of Gio Reyna (BVB) and TIm Weah (Lille) is unclear due to their respective injuries.

"With Gio and Tim, it's too early to tell," he said. "We have 14 days until they come to camp, and those 14 days will be important.'' What we've learned is to expect the unexpected," Berhalter said. "You never know who is going to be available to play in each game. You have to be willing to adapt.''
