Gio Reyna misses Dortmund’s win against Eintracht Frankfurt
The United States men’s international team midfielder was left out of the roster after recovering from his months-long hamstring injury.
Gio Reyna suffered a hamstring injury while playing with the United States men’s national team last year and he has been out for over three months. He finally returned to practice with Borussia Dortmund in late-November and it was expected that he could see some minutes coming off the bench against Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.
Not set date scheduled for Reyna's return
The USMNT midfielder was expected to play during matchday 18 of the Bundesliga partly because Dortmund has several players in quarantine recovering from covid-19. But the head coach, Marco Rose, decided to leave Reyna out of the roster and Dortmund managed to get the three points with a 3-2 win on the road.
The 18-year-old is eager to return but Rose wants to be careful with him after being out for so many months. It is expected that Gio Reyna could see some minutes in Borussia Dortmund’s next matches, but it is up to Rose to decide when he will return.
With his delayed return to the pitch, it is also expected that he misses the international break later this month with the United States. The USMNT manager, Gregg Berhlater, will announce the list of players that will play against El Salvador (27 January), Canada (30 January) and Honduras (3 February).
