“We should be ashamed to play long ball” - Inter Miami striker Gonzalo Higuaín

Inter Miami CF are hitting the reset button after a very disappointing season last year and failing to qualify for the MLS Cup playoffs in their second campaign in the league. Rodolfo Pizarro and Blaise Matuidi, two designated players, will not return for the 2022 season and the only DP left is Gonzalo Higuaín.

Message from Higuaín to the rest of the team

The team owned by David Beckham is looking to sign players prior to the start of the campaign and it is rumored that Luis Suarez, who ends his contract with Atlético Madrid in the summer, could arrive. While the people in charge are searching for players their only designated player, Gonzalo Higuaín, is eager to bounce back with the rest of his current teammates.

The striker from Argentina is aware that there will be pressure on his shoulder this season and he is ready to respond with goals. He also emphasized the style of soccer that the team needs to practice in each game. “We should be ashamed to play long ball,” said Higuaín in a press conference.

Last year I was not 100 percent and I was able to score 12 goals and provide 10 assists. So this year, if I am healthy, I can improve my numbers and help the team make it to the playoffs. Physically I feel great and very focused,” he said.

Another person who would be fighting to come back next year is manager Phil Neville. The former Manchester United defender had a very disappointing first season in Major League Soccer and he needs to improve from what the people in charge at Inter Miami and the fans saw in 2021.

“I always felt we were never a team,” Neville said in a press conference Monday afternoon. “We were always a team where individuals felt they were more important than the team.”
