Raúl Ruidíaz to extend his contract with Seattle until 2024

At the end of the 2021 Major League Soccer campaign it was uncertain if Raúl Ruidíaz would return for the next season, because he was not happy with what he was offered. The Peruvian striker was even threatened with leaving the MLS club with his contract coming to an end after four-years.

Ruidíaz to receive a contract extension

There are several teams in South America and in the Liga MX that would be keen to sign the striker, but Seattle is planning to exercise their 2022 contract option. According to the latest report, the Sounders want to retain Ruidíaz for the long-term and they are working on a contract extension this off-season.

The announcement could be made in the next couple of days and the 31-year-old will sign a contract extension until the 2024 season. Raúl Ruidíaz has been a key player for the Sounders since arriving in 2018. He has made 79 regular season appearances, 74 as a starter, and scored 50 goals and provided nine assists.

The striker from Peru also led the Seattle Sounders to victory in the 2019 MLS Cup scoring four goals and providing four assists in the four playoff games they played that season. That campaign he was the MLS Cup playoff top scorer. Last year he finished with 17 goals, five less than the golden boot winner, and he will return to help Seattle win another trophy.
