Nadal claims 21st major singles title
US Open champion Medvedev raced into a two-set lead on Rod Laver Arena, and looked firmly on course to prevent the Spaniard from overtaking Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic as the men’s game’s most successful player.
However, Nadal fought back in Melbourne to defeat Medvedev 2-6 6-7(5) 6-4 6-4 7-5 and win his second Australian Open title in a thrilling battle lasting five hours and 24 minutes.
The 35-year-old has now moved above Federer and Djokovic with his 21st major title.
