Cheers for joining us tonight to watch a big CONCACAF qualifying win for Canada. The Maple Leaf fans can start preparing for a trip to the Gulf next November with Canada set to grace a World Cup for the first time since 1986. The US are also fancied to join them but need to up their game in the remaining matches.

Take nothing away from Canada who ran out deserved winners with a solid and disciplined display against a US side who just seemed to be lacking creativity in Hamilton and who now need to dig deep in Minnesota next midweek as they face Honduras.

The FT whistle sounds and Canada win in a night that will be long remembered here in Hamilton. The Canucks take a step closer to Qatar and condemn to a second defeat in the qualifying group.

Canada 2-0 USA

The US were pressing forward in numbers and Adekugbe steals the ball to slot home and secure a famous Canada win.

95

Gooooooooool. Canada make it 2-0 right at the death ....

93

Two minutes left for Canada to hold the US at bay.....

92

Pulisic has an effort from long range but once again, the excellent Borjan is alert and saves.

92

Last chance saloon now for the US.... Canada players really flying into every tackle now as they sense a famous win is just moments away.

90

So close for Canada as the men in black break once again with Buchanan who has been excellent tonight at the heart of the move. Adekugbe drives the ball over the bar as 5 mins. of time will be added.

Buchanan is carded

88

Arriola goes close with a wonderfully executed bicycle kick which goes inches wide.

87

Canada's intensity levels in pressing and closing down their opponents tonight has been mighty impressive.

Richards is on the surface and seems to have sustained a knock. The defender limps from the pitch for further attention.

84

The home fans find their voice again as they sense the finish line is close.

83

Canada break and the home fans appeal for a freekick as Hoilett appears to be clipped. The US then launch a swift counter but Canada manage to avert the danger.

80

Long, long spell of US possession ends with Pepi blazing the ball over the bar, albeit from an acute angle.

79

The US are really running out of ideas now as they find any crosses able dealt with by Red Star stopper Borjan in the Canada goal.

Fine intervention from Borjan as he grabs a cross ball from the US. Berhalter yet to try another wave of substitutes....

More importantly, the win does see John Herdman's side edge one step closer to the Qatar World Cup next November.

75

15 minutes left for Canada to hold out and record a famous win against their foes south of the border.

Larin makes way for Junior Hoilett

71

Canada almost make it 2-0 but Turner saves the day for the US with a fine double save as Larin pounced.

70

Free for Canada just on the edge of the US box..... Sam Adekugbe has a effort on goal but fails to keep the ball down.

Play held up briefly as Adams gets treated for a knock.

Big call from the US for a penalty but the ref waves play on.....Aaronson it was who felt he was clipped.

Possession: Canada 36-64 USA (%)... the men in white still control the ball....

61

Buchanan breaks for Canada and goes for goal with Larin well positioned.

61

Canada absorbing wave after wave of US attack now with very much defense mode 'on'. The quick counters are still their best weapon.

60

Sub for Canada as Kaye makes way for Fraser

56

Dest and Buchanan share cross words and the Mexican ref is forced to intervene as the temperature of the game rises a few degrees !

53

The USA are still unable to pick the Canadian defensive lock. McKennie and Pulisic have probed around the area but Canada really are well drilled.

49

The game has adopted a similar pattern as per the first half.... the US enjoying the bulk of possession but Canada looking dangerous on the counter.

46

Canada get the second half underway

A huge cheer greets the Canada side as the emerge to the Tom Hortons Field ...

The teams return to the pitch in Hamilton. A big half for both sides with Canada anxious to maintain their unbeaten run intact and the US needing at least a point to pursue a top three finish that would guarantee a place in Qatar.

The whistle sounds to bring to an end the first half. Canada ahead through the 7th minute Larin strike. Just one great chance for Berhalter's side through the Weston McKennie header which was majestically stopped by veteran keeper Borjan,

45

We'll have three minutes of added time here in Hamilton.

As good a save as you'll see all year from the Red Star Belgrade keeper !

43

What a save from Borjan as he tips a close rage header against the cross bar.... the closest the USMNT have come to finding the net today. Weston McKennie it was who headed for the US

41

Less than five minutes of the first half remain and the US are still looking for a way past the men in black but are being rebuffed with each attack.

From the off, there has been a real hostile atmosphere with the home fans really doing their bit in becoming the 12th man!

37

Dangerous free for the US on the edge of the Canada box as Pulisic is clipped. The Chelsea player shoots, hits over and is derided by the home fans !

Possession after 35": Canada 37-63 USA (%)

Vitoria carded for Canada.

Canada's movement off the ball really is impressive. The home side are at their best moving the ball around with zip and pace.

Shots on target after 30': Canada 1-0 USA..... result after 30'.... Canada 1-0 USA

28

Edging towards the 30 minute mark and Canada good value for their lead despite an upsurge in US pressure. Borjan still yet to be really tested by the men in white.

24

Weston McKennie's long throw ins are a real source of danger for Canada with the Juve man able to create the danger of a corner from the throws.

23

The USMNT are starting to move the ball around well now and Canada resort to 'tactical fouls' to keep Berhalter's men at bay.

21

Pulisic does seem to be getting a little special attention from the Canadian defensive line tonight.

Assuming Canada do make it to Qatar, they will be no pushovers with 'Les Rouges' a well drilled outfit, solid at the back and lethal on the counter and with David and Larin a forweard duo to strike fear into any defensive line-up in global football.

16

Canada 1-0 USA

By the way, tonight's match official is Cesar Ramos from Mexico.

15

Canada riding out the US pressure rather well with Borjan in the Canucks goal yet to really be tested.

The crowd are really playing their part in cheering every decision that goes Canada's way and booing the US players, with Pulisic getting the most vocigerous jeers

Cyle Larin putting the home side ahead with a fine effort slotting the ball in the corner after the US struggled to clear their lines.

Goooooooooool. Canada strike and the crowd in Hamilton go wild..... One-nil to the Canucks

5

Pulisic to take a dangerous free for the US and the ball is averted to the delight of the home crowd.

Tonight's game is way more than just 3 points for both sides with Canada now enjoying their new found status as top CONCACAF side with John Herdman's side unbeaten in this group of eight.

3

Imperative that the USMNT doe their best to silence the rowdy home crowd in the opening phase of the game.

Off we go at Tim Hortons Field ...

Fireworks greet the Canadian national anthem with a really fired up home crowd in Hamilton as both team captain's exchange pennants pre-kick-off.

National anthem time, USA's 'Stars and Stripes' first up....followed by the Canadian national anthem.

The US will be in an all white kit tonight with Canada set to sport all black.

The sides are in the tunnel, so with the pre-game protocol, national anthems etc, we are looking at a 3:05 (ET) start.

Tonight's kick off has been listed as 3:00 pm and also 3:05 pm (ET) in a number of outlets so patience with the start as the DJ in Hamilton belts out the classic 'Sweet Caroline' by Neil Diamond.

The pitch at the Tim Hortons Field is an artificial surface which will be slippery underfoot with the chilly conditions. The winners of tonight's game will take a massive stride to Qatar but mathematical qualification cannot be secured tonight.

After tonight's contest in Hamilton, both the US and Canada will play one more game in this FIFA window with the Canadians traveling to El Salvador with the US facing Honduras in Minnesota.

The US rear-guard will need to be at their best tonight with Larin, Osorio and Jonathan David set to form a formidable attacking trio for the home side.

English born John Herdman was in confident mood speaking to Canada's One Soccer ahead of the clash in Ontario and was delighted to see how local fans have responded to the contest as the 'Canucks' believe that they are on the cusp of a historic World Cup qualification place.

Tem news: US XI

Canada reclaimed top spot in CONCACAF World Cup qualifying with a 2-0 win over Honduras on Thursday, after the United States briefly led the standings thanks to their 1-0 win over El Salvador.

Canada top the table on 19 points, one ahead of the United States, with Mexico third on 17 points.

The top three sides qualify automatically for the World Cup in Qatar, with the fourth-placed team, currently Panama on 14 points, going into an intercontinental playoff.

A win for either the Canada side or indeed the US would deliver a major boost in advancing towards one of the three automatic qualifying places available with the fourth placed side set to enter a play-off with the winner from the OFC confederation.
