Cameroon vs Egypt: AFCON semifinal, times, TV and how to watch online
All the info on how and where to watch the Cup of Nations semifinal between Cameroon and Egypt at the Paul Biya Stadium on 3 February, 2022.
Cameroon will grind to a halt on Thursday as the host nation seek their place in the final of AFCON 2021 when they take on Egypt at the Paul Biya Stadium in Yaoundé. The 2017 champions fell at the last 16 stage two years ago and will be desperate to provide home fans with glory when the final is staged in the same arena on 6 February, where the winner of the first semi-final between Burkina Faso and Senegal will await.
The Indomitable Lions have lived up to their name so far at the tournament, going through the group stage and two rounds of knock-outs unbeaten, although the hosts were given an almighty scare by surprise package Comoros in the last 16. No side scored more in the group stage then the hosts’ seven and in Vincent Aboubakar (6) and Karl Toko Ekambi (5) the Lions have the two tournament top scorers heading into the showdown with Egypt.
Egypt look to Salah for inspiration
For the Pharaohs, the pre-tournament was all about Mo Salah and it has not been much different since the seven-times champions scraped unconvincingly through their group, the Liverpool forward hammering in the decisive kick in the last-16 penalty shoot-out victory over Ivory Coast and scoring the opener against Mali in a 2-1 victory in the quarters, with Trézéguet providing the winner in extra time. Egypt have been struggling for goals of late and have managed only four – fewer than either Aboubakar or Toko Ekambi on their own – across the whole tournament.
Salah has been responsible for half of those and if Egypt are to avenge their loss against Cameroon in the 2017 final, where Aboubakar again bagged the decisive goal for the Indomitable Lions the onus will fall to the Liverpool forward to find a way through the hosts’ back line.
