When the World Cup qualifiers in CONCACAF started last year, no one thought that Canada would be the team to beat with only four games left in the round-robin tournament. Mexico and the United States were the two top teams prior to the start of the campaign, but they are struggling to secure their spot in the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
After weeks of negotiations Atlanta United and Arminia Bielefeld came to terms for the signing of 20-year-old defender George Bello. The Major League Soccer side will receive €600,000, but they included add-ons that could make the deal worth up to €1.3 million. Atlanta United will receive a fee if the Bundesliga side transfers Bello to another club before his contract expires in June 2026.
The USMNT will look to do better after losing to Canada last time out in CONCACAF World Cup qualifying. It was another lethargic first half for the United States, which conceded a sloppy early goal scored by former Orlando City SC striker Cyle Larin. Coach Gregg Berhalter will have to adjust and fix the problems his team displayed against the Canadians at the weekend.
The National Weather Service (NWS) forecast a low of minus-13 for the qualifying game between the USMNT and Honduras at St. Paul, with a northwest wind up to 10 mph. The game is expected to be played in extreme weather conditions because FIFA doesn’t have any rules about playing in extreme cold.
