Super Bowl vs World Cup: the ticket debate
The climax to the NFL season is huge, and millions around the United States and beyond will tune in for the action plus the supporting entertainment, including the mega-star halftime show line-up. However, whether it is the biggest sporting final of the year is one that many would debate, especially those with thoughts on the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar that takes place in the latter months, the title deciding game in mid-December.
Despite the millions that will tune in via television, radio or an online streaming service to watch both clashes, thousands of fans - and a number of corporate taggers on - will be fortunate enough to be inside the stadium to see it live. And one of the many debates over this comparison is regarding the price of the tickets. So is it cheaper to buy a ticket to the World Cup 2022 or Super Bowl LVI?
How much does a Super Bowl LVI ticket cost?
The demand for a ticket to this year’s Super Bowl LVI increased after last year's edition was held in Tampa Bay with a smaller capacity due to restrictions because of the covid-19 pandemic. A full house is expected un LA for the Rams-Bengals.
According to NFL Ticket Exchange, at the time of writing, the cheapest tickets will cost fans no less than $6,600, while the most expensive seats will push you to $75,000 per ticket. Last year, the cheapest ticket was $4,000.
How much does a ticket for the Qatar 2022 World Cup cost?
Although the 32 teams that will play in the controversial and totally-not-money-driven World Cup in Qatar are not all yet known - and, therefore, the competition groups not yet drawn up - the sale of tickets for the matches has already begun, as well as travel packages to the region.
The first ticket sales began on 19 January and to attend the World Cup final it will currently set you back between $604 and $1,600. That's significantly less than it costs to go to Super Bowl LVI, although clearly depending on where you are based the cost of a trip to Qatar plus expenses may prove more prohibitive. That said, you can hop on a flight from the US for between $400 and $800 if you are considering it.
So, that seems to conclude the debate. A ticket for the World Cup in Qatar is much cheaper than that for Super Bowl LVI at SoFi Stadium. Then again, we’re only a few days away from the latter. Let’s look again in November!
