Anthony Davis likely out two weeks

The Lakers got the victory over the Jazz on Wednesday, but not before Anthony Davis hobbled off the court with a right ankle sprain in the second quarter.

Update:
Anthony Davis likely out two weeks

The Lakers have had a tough go as of late, and an injury to Anthony Davis is the last thing they needed.

Lakers snap Jazz win-streak

L.A. did manage to get the win over the Utah Jazz Wednesday, snapping a six-game winning streak just before heading into the All-Star break. The Lakers started the game 11-0 and were down 53-46 at the half but made a comeback in the fourth quarter. LeBron James scored 33 points total, 15 of which came in the final quarter. Russel Westbrook, too, scored nine of his 17 points in the fourth. And the rookie Austin Reeves scored the final three-pointer to push the Lakers’ lead even further and seal the deal in a 106-101 victory over the Jazz.

Lakers without Davis

It was late into the second quarter when Davis jumped up to catch a lob pass by Malik Monk and landed on Rudy Gobert’s heel, turning Davis’ ankle as he fell down. He was seen clutching his lower leg in pain. Before leaving the court, he had 17 points on seven-for-nine shooting. He was replaced by Stanley Johnson.

When Lakers coach Frank Vogel checked on him after halftime, Davis’ ankle had swelled significantly and the player was devastated. Davis has already had to miss 17 games (from late December to January) and the Lakers team was disappointed to see him out again. He is expected to be out for at least two weeks with a right ankle sprain.

The good news is, the Lakers won’t play again for nine more days now with the All-Star break coming up. The next game will be against the LA Clippers on February 25, so that gives Davis some time to heal.

As LeBron said, "No matter where he is, he'll be better a week from today. ... So time heals all, and like I said, it's an unfortunate play, an unfortunate event, and he'll get back as soon as he can. But nothing to rush."
