Storm Dudley forces Manchester City plane to emergency land in Liverpool

Storm Dudley has been wreaking havoc across Scotland and Northern England and even more severe weather is yet to come as Storm Eunice is expected to make its way across the UK on Friday.

High winds force Man City plane to diverge

In a scary moment on Wednesday, the Manchester City soccer team was on its way home from Portugal where they played Sporting Lisbon, when the strong winds from Storm Dudley forced a diversion.

As the plane was descending over Manchester, it had to circle over the city three times before it was finally diverted to Liverpool. The winds were blowing up to 40 knots and the plane was in extremely turbulent conditions while trying to land. In the video, you can see that the plane is basically at a standstill in the air. Rather than risk it and attempt the landing, they flew to Liverpool instead.

Manchester City confirmed the safe arrival on Twitter. "We can confirm the plane transporting the first team home from Lisbon has landed safely in Liverpool, after high winds forced a diversion from Manchester."
