Roma interested in signing Sergiño Dest in the summer

Since Xavi took over the managerial job at Barcelona late-last year, Sergiño Dest has struggled to see minutes and his future is up in the air for next season. The United States international was close to leaving the LaLiga side in the winter transfer window, but his agent confirmed that he will remain at Camp Nou at least until the end of the season.

A club from Serie A could sign Dest

Sergiño Dest has been vocal about wanting to stay at Barcelona, but he has not fully gained the trust of coach Xavi Hernández. He has less than six months to make a case for himself but things are looking up after Xavi praised the level of Dest in Barcelona’s 4-1 victory against Valencia on Sunday.

"Sergiño Dest is to a spectacularly good level. I am very happy with his progress. When we arrived he was not doing very well, but now is improving with and without the ball,” said Xavi during the post-game press conference.

According to Calciomercato, AS Roma is very keen on signing Barcelona’s full-back Sergiño Dest for next season. The LaLiga side paid €21 million to Ajax Amsterdam in 2020 to sign the USMNT defender, so they are only accepting offers close to €18 million for any club that has serious interest.

So far this campaign, the United States international has made 16 league appearances, 14 as a starter and twice he was substituted in. 10 of those were as a starter under Ronald Koeman and since Xavi took over in September, Dest has only started four matches. The former Barcelona legend prefers to use Dani Alves as a right full-back instead of Dest.
