Joe Scally admits lack of communication with Berhlater

Joe Scally is having a breakout season with Borussia Mönchengladbach this year, but has yet to play with the United States men’s national team. During an interview with Transfermarkt, the 19-year-old defender admitted that he has a good relationship with Borussia’s head coach, Adi Hütter, but lacks communication with USMNT boss, Gregg Berhlater.

Hütter has always transmitted me confidence since I joined the Bundesliga side. He is an amazing head coach and you can tell how good he is because of what he did with Eintracht Frankfurt last year. Currently the entire team backs him up,” said Scally.

So far this season, the 19-year-old defender has made 23 appearances across all competitions, scored one goal and provided two assists. Scally has started in 20 games and came off the bench on three occasions. The former NYCFC is having a solid campaign with his club, but with the national team the story is different.

Scally was called for the international break of November last year, but didn’t secure any playing time. During the first international break of the year, the head coach of the United States, Gregg Berhlater, didn’t call him up and Scally explained why he was not included in the roster.

Since last November I have not talked with anyone from the United States men’s national team,” was Scally’s short response when asked about his communication with Gregg Berhalter.
