Tom Brady watches Ronaldo hat-trick at Old Trafford in Man Utd - Tottenham Hotspur
The NFL legend was in England to take in the Premier League match. Spurs striker Harry Kane is said to be a major fan of the former quarterback.
NFL legend Tom Brady was in his feet applauding at Old Trafford this afternoon as he watched Cristiano Ronaldo score a hat-trick in the Manchester United - Tottenham Hotspur match in the English Premier League.
The former Patriot and Buccaneer was delighted as he'd already tweeted out his support for Man Utd:
The television cameras were focused on the legendary quarterback as he watched Utd and Spurs battle it out in the race for a place in the Champions League (finishing fourth in the league guarantees access to the elite competition next season. Man Utd started the match in fifth and Spurs in seventh, but with games in hand).
"Young" Kane a big fan of Brady
Harry Kane, the Tottenham striker, is a huge Tom Brady fan, and when Brady retired at the end of the recent NFL season, Kane sent a farewell message to the American:
“Congratulations on an incredible career. Your drive, passion and commitment is inspiring. You’re the main reason I started following the sport and love the NFL. Thank you!”
Brady responded, saying thanks to Kane, “one of the many amazing young stars in the world”. Kane isn’t really that young in the soccer world, as he turns 29 this year, but compared to 44-year-old Brady he’s a spring chicken.
Brady is a self-confessed soccer fan, saying back in 2018 ahead of Super Bowl LII when asked about Messi: "I love soccer and I've watched soccer for a long time. I love Messi and I think he’s a great player.”
At half-time Brady had seen Harry Kane score, from the penalty spot, but also a double from Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored an absolute peach from distance to open the scoring before putting Man Utd ahead again with a goal from close range soon after Kane’s penalty. Spurs levelled through Maguire, but Ronaldo popped up with under 10 minutes to go to claim his hat-trick.
