MANCHESTER UNITED

Cristiano Ronaldo prepared to stay at Manchester United with new manager

Ronaldo has decided to stay at the Premier League club and is hoping for a new manager, while Manchester United believe they have made a mistake appointing Rangnick.

Update:
Cristiano Ronaldo prepared to stay at Manchester United with new manager

Last month, AS broke news of the worsening relationship between Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick. The report also stated that the senior members of the United team believe that the German is not fit to manage the Old Trafford outfit.

United dumped out of Europe

After United were knocked out of the Champions League by Atlético Madrid on Tuesday, United's directors now have further evidence that they made a mistake by making Rangnick manager. In principle, the German was going to have a senior role at the club, but the club could end up sacking the 63-year-old despite having a contract in place. AS understands that the Portuguese forward has decided to play at Manchester United until his contract expires in the summer 2023 despite the issues at the club.

Ten Hag linked with Old Trafford job

There has been plenty of speculation about Cristiano Ronaldo departing the club at the end of the current campaign. The top scorer in the history of football is, however, confident that the club will get it right with their next manager. The favourite to replace Rangnick is Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag, according to The Telegraph, although United officials have yet to make a final decision on the next manager.

Rangnick-Ronaldo relationship fractured

Rangnick arrived at Old Trafford at the end of November to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after the Norwegian was sacked, but has failed to improve the team. To make matters worse, the German coach doesn't have a good relationship with club legend Ronaldo, who he even criticised for his goal-scoring earlier this season. Those words caused a rift between the pair. It looks like Ronaldo's second spell at United will see him outlast Rangnick.
