NCAA Baseball Week 6 Standings
Week 6 sees the top four spots unchanged as Ole Miss, Texas, Arkansas, and Vanderbilt consolidate their positions as the best teams in the country
Despite going 2 and 2 last week, Ole Miss held onto the top spot in the rankings on the back of their taking an SEC road series at Auburn. Texas, Arkansas and Vanderbilt all held steady while the big jump was by Tennessee, who vaulted two spots after sweeping South Carolina.
The Virginia Cavaliers have the week’s biggest rise, leaping nine spots up to number ten after sweeping Boston College. Arizona climbed four spots from 16 to 11 after taking the first two games of their series against Stanford, who tumbled all the way out of the top 25.
Notre Dame was another big loser this week, falling six spots to after getting swept at Louisville. The biggest shock was the LSU Tigers, who were expected to finish top five but have struggled mightily, dropping eight spots to number 21 after being soundly bested by Texas A&M.
Louisville make their debut in the rankings at 18 after their big sweep of the Fighting Irish. The other new face in the top 25 are UConn who sneak into the number 25 spot.
Along with Stanford, reigning national champion Mississippi State fell out of the top 25 after losing two of their three on the road to Georgia.
This weekend is when things get really hot in the top five as the Ole Miss Rebels will host the Tennessee Volunteers in a three-game series. Any number of combinations can come about to either capsize the boat or see a new captain at the helm.
The Texas Longhorns are visiting the Texas Tech Red Devils in a matchup that is every bit as dangerous as the Rebs-Vols. The Longhorns can’t afford to drop any of those games if they want to stay in the hunt for number one and stave off Arkansas.
The Razorbacks have a lighter load to carry, visiting Missouri this weekend, so both Ole Miss and Texas need to be on their A game.
