Gerardo Martino has been under pressure due to the poor results of the Mexico national team in the World Cup qualifying and they sit in third place with three games left in the campaign. El Tri will start the final batch of the qualifiers on Thursday against the United States men’s national team at Estadio Azteca and this could determine the future of Martino as head coach.

A defeat against their biggest rivals in CONCACAF and playing at home could cost Martino his  job and end his dream of coaching Mexico in the upcoming World Cup. So there is no tomorrow for El Tri - the players fully believe that the Argentinean is the right man for the job, and they will do whatever it takes to beat the USMNT.

The players praised Gerardo Martino

There was a little tension due to the poor results, but we understand his style and we believe in him. We have been playing a certain way for the past three years so there is not time to change anything. We trust him and we can’t have any doubts,” said Uriel Antuna during an interview with Récord.

Mexico to limit the attendance at Estadio Azteca

Mexico are on the verge of securing a top three finish that would give them a direct ticket to the 2022 World Cup - but they need to win against the United States. The latest reports indicate that the Mexican Football Federation is planning to limit attendance to 50,000, even though the Azteca stadium has a capacity of roughly 87,000, in order to control the fans from making anti-gay chants.
