PSG make final push to keep Mbappé from Real Madrid
The general feeling remains that the French superstar will be making a move to his 'dream' club this summer but in Paris there is still some hope.
PSG are still looking for a last-ditch bid to renew the contract of their star player Kylian Mbappé. The latest could be to give him the captain's armband as a symbolic gesture to show him the importance he has as part of the club's project going forward. According to L'Équipe, the Parisian sporting directors are considering this possibility in an attempt to bring him closer to a contract extension.
Can PSG keep Mbappé from Real Madrid?
Internally, Paris are still questioning the leadership of their team captain. Marquinhos' poor performance against Real Madrid has opened up a debate that hasn't been there for the last five years. And as well as being contract related, Mbappé is seen by some as an ideal replacement. He is Parisian, he helps the youngsters and has shown extraordinary character in the most decisive moments. Several PSG leaders are said to want to give him the armband.
For the moment, Mbappé's renewal with PSG is at a standstill. Negotiations have not progressed since August and the most likely scenario is that he will end up at Real Madrid. However, neither the club nor Qatari ownership want to give up and will try up until he communicates his final decision to leave.
