GOLDEN GLOBES 2024

2024 Golden Globes predictions: Who are the favorites to win the main categories in movies and TV?

“Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” are the most nominated movies for the 2024 event, with ‘Succession’ leading the way in television.

MIKE BLAKEREUTERS

After the Hollywood boycott of 2022, the Golden Globes returned to our television screens on NBC last year. Now, the first event will be held since the split from its long-term broadcast partner in the United States, which will also be the first since the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) was dissolved, and Dick Clark Productions and Eldridge Industries acquired the assets related to the Golden Globes.

The 81st edition of the ceremony, which will be held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, in Beverly Hills, in Los Angeles, California and gets underway at 8:00 p.m. ET on Sunday 7 January, will be broadcast on CBS and Paramount+.

“Barbie” and Succession lead nominations

In terms of movies, “Barbie” leads the way with nine nominations, followed by “Oppenheimer”, with eight. On the TV side, Succession is also up for nine awards, with The Bear and Only Murders in the Building nominated for five each.

As well as the 25 categories that were voted on last year, there are two new ones for 2024: Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television and Cinematic and Box Office Achievement (for movies).

Golden Globes 2024: how many categories are there?

Of the 27 awards that will be handed out, 15 are related to cinema and 12 to television. As is the case with almost every awards ceremony related to filmmaking and cinematography, there are both individual and collective prizes on offer.
