MTV is gearing up for this year’s MTV EMA Awards ceremony, which will be held in Manchester for the first time at the new Co-op Live, which opened its doors to the public back in May. On Friday, organizers announced that British singer-songwriter Rita Ora will host the event. It will be her third time presenting the gala - she was given the responsibility of presenting the 2017 gala in London and 2020 ceremony in Germany.

Rita Ora, your host

Paramount president of music, music talent, programming & events Bruce Gillmer said in a statement, “The MTV EMAs are taking over Manchester and we can’t think of a better way to supersize this global music event than by bringing back fan-favorite, Rita Ora. Rita’s infectious energy and talent are undeniable, and we’re absolutely certain she will elevate the show to new highs for fans around the world.”

The singer, who has just finished a mini-tour of Japan, is thrilled to be handed the job of the EMAs again, and beamed, “I’m over the moon that I get to be back with my MTV family hosting the EMAs for the third time! The EMAs stage has become like another home for me, and this year’s show in Manchester is going to be absolutely incredible! We’ve got an amazing lineup of music performances and plenty of surprises in store.”

Rita will be accompanied on the night by guest presenters including Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale, actor Lucien Laviscount who plays Alfie in Emily in Paris and film stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Jodie Turner-Smith.

MTV also confirmed the artists who will be performing on the night - Shawn Mendes, Benson Boone, RAYE, Teddy Swims and the Mexican trio The Warning are in the line-up so far, it’s not known whether more acts will be added in the coming days.

Globe-trotting superstar Taylor Swift dominates this year’s event with seven nominations - including the Best Singer award, which she has taken home in the previous two editions. She is also up for Best Video, Best Collaboration, Best Pop, Best Live and Biggest Fans. Other artists with multiple nominations include Ariana GrandeBillie EilishCharli XCX and Sabrina Carpenter, who all have five each.

Swift could edge closer to, or possibly even equal Justin Beiber’s record of 22 MTV EMA awards, set between 2010 and 2016. The Cruel Summer singer, who resumes her record-breaking Eras Tour this week, is currently on 15 but has seven nominations this year.
