A rock legend took the stage with Benson Boone at Coachella and no one seemed to care
A guitar legend joined the ‘Beautiful Things’ singer but failed to get a reception from an indifferent crowd.

Coachella has gained a reputation over the years for being a posers’ paradise, full of rich kids who attend just to be seen but who have little interest in what the festival is actually all about - music.
The festival has evolved since Pearl Jam famously took on corporate titans Ticketmaster by performing at the Empire Polo Club in 1993. The first two-day event in October 1999 featured Beck, Tool, Rage Against the Machine, the Chemical Brothers, Morrissey, Jurassic 5 and Underworld.
Influencers flock to Coachella
Today, Coachella is more a Mecca for influencers than a celebration of music - as one seasoned rock god discovered this year. Queen axeman Brian May was the surprise guest during Benson Boone’s set, rising up on a motorised platform in full Spinal Tap mode to belt out the solo in Queen’s epic, 1974 masterpiece Bohemian Rhapsody.

The audience’s reaction was tame to say the least. Boone couldn’t believe their indifference and took to TikTok to call out fans. In the video TikTok, Boone is seen miming to ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ singing into a banana mic, with a written caption: “Me trying to get the crowd at Coachella to understand what an absolute legend Brian May is and the cultural impact he has on music and THE WORLD.”
