Amber Heard reflects on past as ex-flame Johnny Depp flies into Madrid
Johnny Depp is in Spain to promote his new film ‘Modi’. His presence in Madrid won’t have gone unnoticed by his ex-wife Amber Heard, now based in the Spanish capital.
While the chances of a reconciliation are next to zero, this week, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard find themselves closer than they’ve been during the past two years - geographically speaking.
The actor is in Spain to promote his new film Modi - Three Days on the Wing of Madness in which he plays Italian painter, sculptor and Picasso contemporary, Amedeo Modigliani, who gained little success during his short career but received posthumous acclaim following his death from tubercular meningitis, at the age of just 35.
For screenings of the movie have been programmed at the 72nd San Sebastián Film Festival and Depp is in the Basque coastal city to join fellow cast members Bruno Gouery, Riccardo Scarmarci, Antonia Desplat, Luisa Ranieri and Ryan McParland for the event.
But before heading north to San Sebastián, the 61-year-old actor spent some time in Madrid, where his ex-wife Amber Heard currently resides with her three-year-old daughter, Oonagh Paige.

Depp had other arrangements and wasn’t in town to catch up with his former flame although it was the first time that the pair have been in the same city since their high profile defamation court case in 2022.
Johnny was a special guest on Antena 3 chat show El Hormiguero on Monday night. Wearing a royal blue, three-piece suit and crisp white shirt with a wide collar, Depp was joined on by fellow Modi cast member Riccardo Scamarcio and both actors were gifted exclusive Francisco Bros Spanish classical guitars by host Pablo Motos. “Music was my first love. Music was the one thing that saved me from youth and myself,” Depp told Motos before confessing how he stole a guitar tutorial manual, which he used to teach himself how to play. “Yes... I freed a book from a local store. It happened to fit right down my trousers perfectly. And I waltzed out. The book had photographs showing how to play the chords. That was at the age of 12″.
Who knows whether his ex-wife Amber Heard tuned in to watch or not although Norman Reedus was the star guest over on TVE1 as the two channels jostled for Monday’s audience ratings.
Amber Heard settled in north Madrid
Heard relocated to Madrid in April 2023 after selling her Yucca Valley home in July 2022 for $1.1 million. The actress first moved to Mallorca, where she was able to keep away from the prying eyes of the paparazzi and similarly, she is left alone by the media in the Spanish capital, where she has been living a low-key existence while enjoying getting to know Spanish culture.
“I love Spain. I’m very lucky to be here, and regarding my past, I don’t feel like thinking or talking about it, because I’m happy and in peace,” she said of her new life in the exclusive, northern part of the capital. “I love moral values here. Also, the people, the vibes. People here are very respectful and happy. I appreciate that.”
In her most recent film work, Amber played psychiatrist Grace Victoria Burnham alongside Spanish actor Eduardo Noriega in Conor Allyn’s 2023 movie, In the Fire.
