Ben Affleck gets mistaken for Matt Damon in latest Dunkin’ Donuts ad
The actor was mistaken for his good friend in his second ad for the company
Ben Affleck is building on his rapport with the coffee company in his second ad for them, after his Super Bowl LVII commercial which also starred his wife, Jennifer Lopez.
Now the ad finds Affleck confused for his childhood friend, fellow actor Matt Damon.
Workers praise Damon’s work for the movie ‘The Departed’, as Affleck walks away with a new offer called “Dunkin Run”, which includes a $1 donut when customers purchase a medium or large coffee.
Mistaken for his best friend
“I’m here for the Dunkin’ Run…campaign, commercial,” Affleck says when he enters the coffee and donuts shop with his native Massachusetts accent.
“It’s a great deal — a large coffee, a donut for a buck. I mean, it’s pretty cool.”
In the ad, which Affleck also directed, the Dunkin’ Donuts employees don’t recognize Affleck, instead, they see Matt Damon.
“So I thought it would be like authentic and meta — yes, I’m doing the commercial, but am I doing the commercial?” he continues, before adding, “You know, I don’t do commercials. I’m a real actor. This is an art form for me.”
The workers are still focused until one of them says, “You know, ‘The Departed’,” jogging the other one’s memory.
“Are you in ‘The Departed’?” they inquire excitedly. Affleck, exasperated, only says, disapprovingly, “I’m Matt Damon.”
“He’s had a really consistent career,” they say, with Affleck reacting with a grimace.
What is a Dunkin’ Run?
When filming for his first Dunkin’ Donuts commercial in January, Affleck explained the meaning of the Dunkin’ Run.
“The Dunkin’ run is sort of a form of the expression that people would use to say like, ‘Just going to get a cup of coffee. Go make a Dunkin’ run,” the actor said.
“It’s had various iterations and evolutions, and the...most consistent version of it is like, you know, ‘going [for a] Dunkin’ run.’”
Affleck’s association with the famous coffee company came after a meme was made of him struggling to pick up his order from his front gate that was photographed by paparazzi.
